Fans Are Livid Over Aaron Carter's Omission From Grammys In Memoriam Segment

Fans are not having any part of Aaron Carter's exclusion from the 2023 Grammy Awards "In Memoriam" segment.

The lengthy segment, dedicated to honoring singers who died the year before, saw the faces of those in the music industry who passed within the calendar year in view flashing on the Grammys screen on Sunday, February 5.

Those honored were Loretta Lynn, Takeoff, Lisa Marie Presley, Christine McVie, DJ Stephen "Twitch" Boss, Jeff Beck, Olivia Newton-John, Coolio, David Crosby, Naomi Judd, and so on.

However, Carter's face was noticeably left out of the on-stage tribute as musical powerhouses Quavo, Kacey Musgraves, Mick Fleetwood, Sheryl Crow, and Bonnie Raitt gave emotional renditions in respect of those who died.

Months after Carter was found in his bathtub on November 5, 2022, fans are fighting for him to be recognized by Grammy Awards organizers. While the late 34-year-old was listed under the in-memoriam section in the physical copy of the Grammys program, it was inadequate for his fan base.

One displeased fan tweeted, "Wtf what about Aaron Carter why wasn't he mentioned in the memoriam on the Grammys that's ridiculous." Another wanted to understand why Carter was excluded considering that "he completely changed the teen pop music game, broke so many records, and truly paved the way for so many young pop stars that followed him."

A third person shared that while they loved Quavo's moving performance for Takeoff, Carter "deserved to be in the #inmemoriam." Along with a picture of the late singer, a fourth person tweeted:

"Since the Grammys chose not [to] include Aaron Carter's picture while tributing the passed away singers. I'll just post my own mini tribute because that's so sad. Rest In Peace Aaron Carter #Grammys2023."

A fifth disgruntled person noted that it was "really terrible" for the Recording Academy to leave the "Oh Aaron" singer out because "No matter how you felt about AC, he made a huge mark in the business at such a young age."

A sixth Twitter user expressed anger that Carter was left out of "the @RecordingAcad GRAMMYs in memoriam reel," while a seventh quipped, "How dare the @RecordingAcad forget to include  @aaroncarter with the musicians that passed away this year. That makes me very upset. I miss you always #Aaroncarter."

Per the awards website, which also included Carter's name, the in memoriam list honored "artists and industry professionals the music community lost from January 1, 2022, to December 6, 2022."

The website pointed out that while the 2022 GRAMMYs featured an In Memoriam segment that highlighted "some of these individuals via a video tribute," all of those who died before "its print date are included in the official 2023 GRAMMYs program book."

Last month, The Blast reported that Aaron's mother, Jane, and his fiancée Melanie Martin believe that the "That's How I Beat Shaq" singer died from a possible drug overdose instead of drowning. 

While they await the coroner's toxicology report that will determine precisely what was in his body when he died, the duo was allegedly informed that there was no water found in Aaron's lungs by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

That statement has successfully eliminated drowning as a potential cause of death, prompting Jane to call for more answers. In fact, previous reports have claimed that the late singer's mother wants law enforcement officials to launch an investigation into a possible drug deal that took place on the night of his death.

Jane and Martin's suspicions about the real cause of Aaron's death began after the latter reportedly found a text message chain between her late beau and an unidentified person. 

The unnamed individual told Aaron that he owed $800 for an unknown substance, which the "Don't Say Goodbye" artist refused, claiming that he did not need it anymore. That did not stop the person on the other end from insisting that the former teen pop star owed him the money mentioned above.

The conversation ended when Aaron asked if he was being threatened. Armed with the text exchange, Martin, who shares a son, Prince, with Aaron, met with investigators early last month.
