Twain Is Way More Than 'Just A Girl': How The Country Music Trailblazer Is Taking Charge

Twain is not only reminding herself she is 'still the one' through the songs of "Queen Of Me," but she is also taking her power back by opening up and publicly sharing some insight behind the catalyst for the album's theme.

Last month, The Blast explored the vulnerable reason behind Twain's drive to take control of her sense of self. While promoting "Queen Of Me," Twain revealed why she chose to pose nude on the record's cover on the "Today Show."

"It's really about saying I was abused as a kid," she shared. "My stepfather would fondle me up on the top and make me go without a shirt and I was already maturing. The cringy horrible wanting to escape being in my own skin," she continued in conversation with Hota Kotb.

Twain publicly revealed her stepfather's actions for the first time in 2018.

"It's time to start loving myself in my own skin and really embracing that and not being embarrassed or shy about it," Twain continued. "This is who I am now."

Twain's TODAY interview wasn't the first time she has reflected on the incident recently; she also spoke about it in an interview with The Sunday Times.

"I hid myself and I would flatten my boobs," she recalled of the resulting psychological effect of her stepfather's actions. "I would wear bras that were too small for me, and I would wear two, play it down until there was nothing 'girl' about me. Make it easier to go unnoticed."

Twain continued, "Oh my gosh, it was terrible- you didn't want to be a girl in my house." (per The Blast)

The 'Queen' Is 'Feeling Good' About Herself!

"The Queen Of Me" is inspired by feeling the inner-sunshine within ourselves- a feeling Twain has been well-familiar with as of late!

In the caption of her Instagram post celebrating the release of "The Queen Of Me," Twain writes, "I am absolutely thrilled to announce that my new album, 'Queen Of Me,' is now yours! I wrote this album from a place of feeling good about myself- I wanted music that got me up dancing and lifted my spirits! I think the fact I recorded this album with so many good-hearted and talented people only amplified that! I hope the album brings you joy and empowers you to feel good in your own skin! Love Shania x"
