Actress Daisy Ridley admits that she feels like a completely "different person" from the one who took part in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Ridley was a relative unknown when she appeared in 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." She reprised her role in 2017's "The Last Jedi" and 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker," which wrapped up the nine-episode Skywalker Saga.
Fans have been anxious to know how Rey's story continues, and although Ridley thought the movie gave Rey a "wonderful" ending, it's possible that her story will continue.
Daisy Ridley Admits She Has 'No Idea' If She'll Return To 'Star Wars'
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if it would take thirty years to revisit Rey on screen again, Ridley replied, “Honestly, I have no idea. I feel like Rey’s story ended in a wonderful way with the last film."
“It’s already been an insane three years since that film came out. I feel like quite a different person,” she went on. “We’ve all gone through a massive change in the last three years, with lots of crazy things happening.”
“So I really don’t know if there are plans. I just don’t know,” she admitted. “But ultimately, I loved my experience, I loved what I got to do and I love the people I got to work with. So, should that happen again, even once, was amazing. Because the dream is to really be around nice people that make you feel good and feel heard while you do good work.”
Ridley Said She Felt ‘Very Present’ While Filming ‘The Rise Of Skywalker’
During her third film as the character, Ridley said that she felt “very present” while filming. “On the first two, I was like, ‘Oh my God, they’ve chosen the wrong person. Oh my God, I’m gonna screw it all up. Oh my God, oh my God.’ And then by the third one, I had little time to pause,” she recalled.
“I still had moments of feeling like, ‘Oh my God, am I terrible?’ But I also knew that I worked really hard and that I was in a very safe environment with a lot of people that I already knew,” she continued. “I felt very comfortable, and I really made an effort to be present every day.”
“And it was my favorite filming experience for that reason because I was really taking in everything, and none of the joy and excitement had gone,” she added. “So I felt like I could breathe a little easier. I mean, I loved all of them, but it was nice to really be in my body for that last filming experience.”
Daisy Ridley Says She Had 'Many Discoveries' Playing Rey
One experience that she remembers was experiencing rain for the first time in “The Last Jedi.” Ridley recalled, “In terms of the rain, I do remember that because I was given an amazing picture of it as my wrap gift.” Another image that resonates with Rey is the image of her seeing green foliage for the first time in “The Force Awakens.”
“And with the green, it was all so dreamy,” Ridley said. “It was such a surreal experience, and the whole thing was so awe-inspiring. So the green was just another thing to add. I feel like I had many, many discoveries as that character.”
Ridley Hints She May Be Ready To Return To 'Star Wars' As Rey
Late last month, while debuting her new film "Sometimes I Think About Dying" at the Sundance film festival, Ridley revealed that she is "looking for employment" and hinted that she was ready to return to a galaxy far, far away.
A reporter with IMDb asked her, “Do you think you’ll ever revisit the franchise at some point?” Daisy replied, “I mean, I’m… I’m open to a phone call. I’m… I’m looking for employment.”
This isn't the only time that Ridley has teased that she might be open to returning to the franchise. In March 2022, she was walking the BAFTA red carpet when she answered another question about her future in the franchise.
“Do tell me. Do you miss being Rey?" a reporter asked. "Are you going to make a return to ‘Star Wars’?”
“I’ll always be Rey,” Ridley replied before adding, “Soundbite!”
