Nastia Liukin Reunites Entire 2008 U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team

Gymnast Nastia Liukin was reliving her glory days this week after reassembling the entire Team USA squad who competed in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. It was a special moment when Bridget Sloan, Alicia Sacramone, Samantha Peszek, Chellsie Memmel and Shawn Johnson all joined Nastia Liukin on her new YouTube channel. The six gymnastics stars, who wended up winning silver during the 2008 games, played the "most likely" game as they laughed caught up on what everyone was up to nowadays.

"It’s been over 7 years since we have been reunited in person, all together. And because it only felt right in a year like 2020 - I got all the girls together again, virtually of course," Nastia Liukin wrote on Instagram while showing a collection of powerful photos from the gymnasts' years of competition together.

"It’s honestly hard to describe the bond that was created during this moment. 6 teenagers… who were on most days competing against each other - sometimes for the same exact spot - but even on those days, one thing never changed," Nastia added.

The retired women gymnasts appeared to have a fantastic time drinking wine and reminiscing about the fun times they had training and competing against each other as teenagers.

They also all agreed that an in-person reunion was needed once the COVID-19 pandemic ends and they can all travel somewhere. The time limit was set at 12 months, and Nastia asked that nobody get pregnant so the girls can get a little wild. That comment had all the gymnasts looking at Shawn Johnson, who swore that she was not going to have another baby anytime soon.

Although it's been years since the gymnasts all met up together and talked, the bond between them was still extremely strong. Nastia Liukin was loving the nostalgic vibes while reconnecting with her old friends:

"Whether that was listening (silently with a pillow over my head) to Nelly being blasted till midnight (if you know me 9pm was and still might be my normal bedtime) or loading up on snickers bars when I didn’t even love chocolate or just being a shoulder to cry on," Nastia wrote.

She added, "Through the good, bad, happy and sad, we were constantly lifting each other up. Perhaps most of our lives have changed dramatically in the past decade, one thing that will remain a constant is the love and respect we have for one another."
