Naomi Watts Posts Throwback Tampon Ad Talking About 'Dry Va-Jay-Jay's'
By Rima Pundir on February 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM EST
When she's not being chased by a massive gorilla in "King Kong" or tsunamis in "The Impossible", Naomi Watts goes onto Instagram to talk about things that matter. Especially when it comes to menopause, dryness, and vaginas.
Or as Watts put it, "dry va-jay-jay's". According to Watts, talking about it is the only way to poof the stigma away, so she gets talking, with a throwback ad about tampons!
First Up, Naomi Watts Loves This Menopause Song
In October, which is menopause awareness month, Watts shared the most hilarious song ever, by New Zealand creator Shirley Serban. Watts introduced her as "this genius woman" and wanted Instagram to celebrate her, "for being brilliant, creative, and funny AF. God knows we need to laugh through this time and for those in the back, you might learn a little too. Please watch until the end. She's beyond talented. I've watched it dozens of times and have laughed my arse off!!"
Christy Turlington, Selma Blair, and Michelle Pfeiffer found it hilarious as well, and so did plenty of other Instagram users.

While most comments on Watt's IG called the video not only hilarious but also on-point, one had some hope to offer.
"It does get better. You get your brain back intact. And no more menstrual cycles: no PMS, no period pain, no more blood .... who needs it? There is SOME shite to go through, yes, but the worst of it I assessment and there's freedom on the other side. You'll see!"
Even a man agreed, saying, "This is so f--king brilliant. As a husband watching my wife go through this misery, it’s spot on! Thanks for giving us both a cringey laugh."
Now while the video was fun and the Freddie Mercury impression was also bang on (do look up Bohemian Rhapsody, if you missed the connection!), the one thing about menopause is dryness. And no, not the "itchy skin" variety, but vaginal dryness.
Luckily, Naomi Watts is here to help!

Naomi Watts Wants To Know About YOUR "Dry January"
54-year-old Naomi Watts has a question for you as she asks, "What kind of Dry January have you had… Dry AF… am I right?"
She then delves into it, saying how it's easy for us to talk about hormones when we are younger but when not so much when women approach menopause. Said the actress, "Why is it that we can talk about periods and puberty with ease, but when it comes to menopause, and yes, drrrryness… we all get a little skittish…. I created this post in an attempt to capture a woman’s hormonal bookends."
In the picture accompanying the post, Watts put up a throwback, from nearly 40 years ago, saying. "I shot the Johnson & Johnson tampon ad when I was 15… face forward… confident… curious… 'when can I start using tampons?'"
Besides the throwback, there was the latest picture of Watts, which she said was, "a take on what it could look like if we tackled midlife hormonal challenges with the same kind of boldness."
Watts continued to say, "When it comes to the “adult version” of hormonal changes we're thrust into the shadows of secrecy and shame… with a total lack of information, plus misinformation! Who knew we'd have to sneak a pump of the good stuff before some hanky panky?"
Her menopause positivity seemed to be rubbing off on a lot of her Instagram followers, one of which was all for menopause cakes, saying, "And why are we not way more pumped to stop getting our periods? Not being beholden to pain and mess every single month should be a large celebration. Normalize welcome to menopause cakes!"
Here's Watts, looking gorgeous at 15, and 54!

Too Wet Or Too Dry For The Patriarchy!
Watts campaigned for lube, quoting Dr. Jen Gunter, "A lubricant can be a great addition for sex. Some people may need it because they have dryness or other symptoms of menopause, but many people, whether in menopause or not, simply like lube. Unfortunately, there is a lot of stigma about lube. Some people are even made to feel as if there is something wrong with them for liking and/or needing lube. It seems you’re either too wet or too dry for the patriarchy. To that, I say, bollocks. And, lube for all my friends, should they so desire.”
Watts continued to say, "Let's get real, take menopause and yes, dry va-jay-jay’s, mainstream. Unapologetically so! More than 1 billion people worldwide will be menopausal by 2025… That’s a whole lot of dry."
Have a listen and celebrate menopause, with lube and her brand of menopausal health and solution, Stripes.
