Lauren London Gives Update On Being A Single Mom Since Nipsey Hussle Death

The actress is currently doing press for her Netflix film You People starring alongside Jonah Hill, Nia Long, and Eddie Murphy, she doesn’t play a single mom in the film but she plays a woman who has to be strong enough to get past societal judgment and stereotypes to proceed with an interracial relationship.

The conversation turns into a chat about the realities of life. Lauren Shares exclusively with TheJasmineBrand how that translates to her real life and being a single mom of two boys Kameron, 13 with rapper Lil’ Wayne, and Kross, 6 with late rapper Nipsey Hussle.

“I’m a single mom, so I want to be very realistic with them. Life is tough,” admits Lauren who lost her partner Nipsey, the father of her youngest son to gun violence. “I don’t wanna cushion everything for them. I want them to be prepared for life,” she says candidly on the podcast.

The actress says she bounces between two modes as a mom. “I think I’m a balance because sometimes I think I may be going too soft, but I have times where I’m like, ‘Hey, hey, hey, y’all, come on now. Let’s get this together.’ I think I’m an old-school mother.”

She takes the time to focus on the good things in life. “My kids are healthy, they are happy, and I am healthy. I’m here. I have an opportunity to make it a good day. And so I would have to say that every day.”

She feels so blessed already, she doesn’t want to overdo it with the big man upstairs. “My intention is to make the best out of what I have. I don’t wanna ask God for too much.”

In You People, she plays Amira Mohammed a woman who falls in love with a Jewish man played by Jonah Hill, they attempt to blend their families, but it goes left. Lauren was happy to be able to film in L.A. staying close to her children as a single mom that’s important.

“What felt personal was shooting in L.A. And some of those areas that we shot in and some of the places that we shot in. I liked that they were Jewish ’cause it was also some stuff that I got to learn via being in the movie that I didn’t know.”

Plus, she had a lot of fun doing it, admitting that she likes to find happy moments and opportunities to laugh in life since Nipsey’s passing.

The actress lost her long-time partner Nipsey in 2019 when he was murdered outside of his store Marathon senselessly. She always makes sure to uphold the rapper’s legacy daily but sometimes her fans worry about her well-being.

The actress has always been candid about her feeling regarding Nipsey’s passing and while it has been challenging, she says being a mom helps push her through.
