Actress Lauren London credits her children for giving her the strength to continue living life after tragically losing her boyfriend, late rapper Nipsey Hussle.
London, 38, recently sat down with Drew Barrymore during an episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” to discuss her new film, the grief and healing process after losing her boyfriend, and how her children inspire her to keep moving forward.
Lauren London Talked To Drew Barrymore About Moving Forward
London and Barrymore began their chat talking about London’s new Netflix movie, “You People.” The movie stars London, Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, and Nia Long. Barrymore asked if working with co-writer and director Kenya Barris helped to make is “safer” to work with someone trusted.
“I’m very apprehensive of working right now, just grieving still and just building a new life so I’m very intentional of who I work with and Kenya just created a really safe space and so did Jonah,” she said. “This is a new pool that I’m swimming in, so Kenya, knowing him, trusting him and respecting him really helped.”
The description of the movie on Netflix reads, “Families and cultures clash when two LA millennials from different backgrounds fall in love and face the ultimate relationship test: meeting the parents.”
London plays the lead role of Amira, who meets Hill’s character and falls in love. Once their families get involved, things start to get complicated for the two.
Lauren London Credits Her Boys For Helping Her Move On
The chat then turned to being a mom. London is mom to two sons, Kameron Carter, 13, with rapper Lil Wayne, and Kross Asghedom, 6, with Nipsey Hussle. “I’m obsessed with my kids. I love them so much,” she said. “They are such a big part of why I get up in the morning and have hope and joy because they deserve so much love and joy.”
When Barrymore asked how she was able to move on from her boyfriend’s tragic death and have the courage to get back to work, she explained that it’s because of her children.
“Every day is different, and so some days you don’t want to, you just want to lay there,” she said. “My big reason is my children, because they do deserve a really happy mom and they deserve joy and they deserve a house that has music playing and incense going and light coming in the windows. They deserve that. And you know, when you lose someone, they’re on the other side wanting you to continue life as well.”
Lauren London Took A Break From Acting After Nipsy Hussle’s Death
In early 2021, London spoke with “Entertainment Tonight” about her first role after her longtime boyfriend’s death. When asked about her role in Amazon Prime Video’s film, “Without Remorse” she said she filmed the movie in 2019 shortly after his death, and that led her to taking some time off to heal.
“We shot it in 2019 I believe, and forgive me, my memory doesn’t serve me so well after grief and everything,” she explained. She said that her co-star, Michael B. Jordan reached out to her to see if she wanted to do the film so soon after her boyfriend’s tragic death.
“Michael reached out to me as a friend and he was so unsure if I was even going to ever work again. And he was like, ‘Look, I’m unsure if this is what you want to do, but I have to follow my intuition, I have to ask you if you can just read the script.'”
