Chelsea Handler Explains Why She's Tired Of Talking About Her Ex Jo Koy

Chelsea Handler is done talking about her former relationship. The comedienne had a romantic affair with fellow comic Jo Koy from August 2021 to July 2022. She shared that talking about her ex would give the press something to turn into a headline.

Handler hasn't found a new boyfriend since her breakup with Koy and is relishing her single life and developing a closer bond with herself.

She had previously stated that her separation from Koy resulted from her refusal to "abandon" and "change" some aspects of herself.

During her appearance on a recent episode of Call Her Daddy podcast, Handler told host Alex Cooper that she no longer talks about her breakup with Koy because she feels it's stale news and does not want to feed the press something to run with.

"Well, I just don't wanna really comment on it any further because it turns into a headline," Chelsea said of the split, per E! News.

The comedian also said she would focus on discussing other personal endeavors rather than unsettling the dust on her previous relationship.

She added, "And I'm not promoting a breakup from six months ago. I'm here to talk about all the other things I'm doing. And I understand people are interested, but it's just like, it's run out of gas."

Handler and Koy were first linked in August 2021 before making their relationship Instagram official in September of that same year. They made several public appearances at events before parting ways in July 2022

Since splitting from Koy, Handler has yet to bag a new man and is enjoying the single life and building a more intimate relationship with herself.

"I've actually meaningfully spent time by myself to see what was up with myself, right? And I've really, genuinely enjoyed getting to know me," the actress explained, sharing what she has been up to.

Handler advised those out of a relationship to do a lot of self-introspection "so that they can show up in a really good way" for their next relationship."

She also noted that knowing when to take a "timeout" was necessary, adding that "a lot of people don't seem to know that it's time to take a break."

Regarding her breakup from Koy, Handler had previously pointed out some reasons during a December episode of Brooke Shields' Now What? podcast.

She said at the time, "There were just some behaviors that we couldn't agree on, and it felt to me like I would have to abandon myself—which maybe I would have been OK to do if I were 20 or 25—but I wasn't willing to do that."

Doubling down on her point, Handler shared that her unwillingness to "abandon" and "change" some things about herself superseded her love for Koy.

Although the split was done with the best intention for herself, that did not mean it came easy.

She added, "I had to walk away from something that I really believed was gonna be a forever relationship, and so that was difficult."

Handler and Koy appear to have remained on good terms despite their split. "This is not an ending. It's another beginning, and it's a comfort to know that I am still loved and love this man the way the sun loves the moon and the moon loves the sun," she said in an Instagram video to announce their split.

"YOUR PERSON IS COMING. So, please continue to root for both of us, because you never know what life will bring."

In a different post, Koy confirmed that they are still involved in each other's life and wished her the best in her future endeavors.

"Just want everyone to know that Chelsea and I will always remain great friends and will always have love for one another," he wrote. "I'm her biggest fan, and I can't wait for you all to see what she has in store for the future. Keep killing it, Chelsea! Mahal kita!"
