“I keep saying it but Halle Berry being the only WOC to ever win for this category is the most bizarre thing to me....in 90+ years......” the lack of people of color on the screen was really upsetting many who believed that there were quality films that featured people of color that had no reason to be snubbed like Till the film about Emmett Till’s murder that focused on his mother’s fight to avenge her son using the social justices provided to her at the time.

As mentioned, other films that featured people of color were snubbed and the conversation on Twitter is including them in the mix. “Viola Davis (The Woman King) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till) should have been nominated for Best Actress and no one can tell me any different. #Oscars2023.”

“I'm heartbroken for danielle. like she brought so much life to Till. hopefully, she has more good things lined up!” wrote one fan who is clearly gutted by the snub but more so for the actress Danielle Deadwyler who played Mamie Till in the film Till.

“No Black women at all for Best Actress -No Viola -No Danielle Deadwyler No Best Directing nod for Ryan Cooler or Gina Prince-Bythewood either @ #Oscars2023.” Something tells us this isn’t going away any time soon.

One fan posted, “They're really never gonna let another black woman win Best Actress, that's crazy...”

While another wrote, “Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler both missing Best Actress is absolutely ridiculous. #OscarNominations2023.”

Is Ana de Armas To Blame?

Many people are not only annoyed about the snub but they are further antagonized by “overhyped” actress Ana de Armas being nominated in the best actress category for Blonde. The snub burned a little bit more for some seeing her face and name up there.

Some people went as far as to accuse the movie of stealing the spot that The Woman King should have been in. “I'm as upset as anyone at some of those Best Actress snubs, but let's all remember that the enemy is not Andrea Riseborough but BL*DE #OscarNoms.”

Do you think Viola Davis, Danielle Deadwyler, or any other film that featured people of color got snubbed?
