Cardi B let the internet mess with her head and caused her potential nominationsfor the Grammys. She regrets every moment of it.
Cardi B’s ‘WAP’ Broke Barriers
The native New Yorker is revealing a lot of shocking tidbits during her sitdown interview with Jason Lee on the “Hollywood Unlocked” podcast including that she low-key blocked her own blessings.
Jason asked her why she didn’t submit the extremely viral song, WAP for a Grammy consideration and Cardi revealed she was too scared and insecure. “I need to stop letting the internet control my life," she revealed saying that she feared the negative feedback.
"Because I didn't want to submit 'WAP' because I was afraid that if I win or if I… You know what's so crazy? The internet got me even afraid of winning. That is insane," she freaked out. Jason shared that he was upset with Cardi for making that decision, admitting that it took everything for him not to “jump through the phone and scream at" the musician.
Jason Lee Shared His Thoughts
The host shared how monumental Cardi’s hit with Megan Thee Stallion was for the culture. "Because what I loved about this song is that it united two superstars," he reminisces. The song also drew the attention of the Conservatives who wanted to have it banned because of its meaning.
They accused the 30-year-old of setting feminists back and encouraging young women to act immorally due to the graphic lyrics. On the flip side, the song was so popular it sparked a dance on social media and had all age ranges grinding and humping the ground (literally all ages).
Cardi shared her thoughts on the Conservatives and their hate, "When 'WAP' came out, the people that were criticizing it the most, they were like, 'This is so nasty, this is so freaky' — I don't even think it was religious people, it was really a lot of Republicans," she recalled.
Cardi B Has Been Defending ‘WAP’ For A While
It seems like since the song dropped, Cardi has been defending her track and nothing she says is right. While appearing on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Cardi said of the song, "The people that the song bothers are usually conservatives or really religious people, but my thing is I grew up listening to this type of music."
She continued, "Other people might think it's strange and vulgar, but to me, it's almost like really normal, you know what I'm saying?" There is no question the song is a hit on its own and even though it wasn’t Grammy-nominated, it has gone on to win or be nominated for so many other awards.
American Music Award, a BET Award, three BET Hip Hop Awards, a People's Choice Award, iHeartRadio Music Award, and an MTV Video Music Award. Plus, it’s gone platinum a total of eight times so, yeah, it’s still thriving.
Plus the music video isn’t one that people glance over not only does it have a wacky vibe, but Cardi also rounded up people like Kylie Jenner and Normani to appear in some sexy visuals.
