The cancellation of the series was announced on Thursday by the reboot's creator via tweet.

"Gossip Girl's" cancellation by HBO Max comes after a rough year for the streaming service. Viewers were unhappy following the news of HBO Max's merge with Warner Brothers Discovery last summer. A number of titles disappeared without warning from the platform, which launched in 2020.

Inside HBO Max's Cancellation Of Popular 'Gossip Girl' Reboot

According to Teen Vogue, the series' creator Josh Safran took to Twitter to announce "Gossip Girl"s cancellation.

"So here's the goss," Safran tweeted, "it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce 'GOSSIP GIRL' will not be continuing on HBO Max..."

Safran went on to highlight his favorite aspects of working on the series in his Twitter thread.

"The EPs and I will forever be grateful to the network and studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the crew for their hard work, dedication, and love for this project."

Safran also revealed in the thread that "Gossip Girl's" future may not be over; he revealed the search for another 'home' for the series is already on.

"We are currently looking for another home," Safran continued, "but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs."

A Change.org petition to bring the series to Hulu has already started, with a viewer leaving a link in Safran's thread.
