If there was any small hope of an early get-together in 2023 for Spice Girls fans, Mel C has put her foot through it!

It's been almost three decades since the Spice Girls first burst onto the music scene, and fans have eagerly awaited a reunion. However, their hopes for a reunion tour or performance may have been dashed, at least for now. Mel C shut down rumors that the popular girl group would be headlining the 2023 Glastonbury Festival.

Melanie Jayne Chisholm, aka Sport Spice, burst into the limelight as a part of the bestselling girl group of all time. She achieved global stardom and won the hearts of fans with her tomboyish persona, complete with her karate kick antics on stage in the late 1990s.

After experiencing all the highs and lows being a superstar brought at the height of her career, she has chosen a somewhat simpler life while still doing what she loves — dancing. In a recent interview with The Guardian, she spoke on her latest project, a modern dance production with choreographer Jules Cunningham.

She noted that while doing the promo for the show, all she kept getting were questions about if they would be performing at the Glastonbury Festival and if co-organiser Emily Eavis had called on the band. She explained:

"It's the question I hate the most because the answer is as disappointing to me as it is to Spice Girls fans," adding, "We would love to do Glasto. It just doesn't fit with the current plan with the girls. We want to get back on stage – everything is up in the air."

With her words, the singer made it clear that there are no concrete plans for a reunion tour or performance, which disappointed people hoping to see the Spice Girls back together on stage.

Fans will recall that their last performance was without Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, who was done with the pressure of being on stage. The 49-year-old revealed that the designer hung up her dancing shoes after the 2012 Olympics while the rest of the ladies had "incredible stadium shows in 2019."

The star noted that Beckham feared missing out on things, which left her hopeful that she might change her mind one day. Mel C also shared that while they were at Geri's – Baby Spice — 50th, the 48-year-old "was the first on the dance floor requesting Spice Girls songs."

It's not the first time rumors of a Spice Girls reunion have surfaced, and it probably won't be the last. In December 2021, The Blast reported that the songwriter said she and the other band members were talking about another tour.

The "Stages" singer detailed her plan for the event while noting that she would want Beckham to be a part of the performances since she missed the last one. While speaking to guest host Howie Mandel on The Ellen DeGeneres, she teased that they had been talking about regrouping after the success of the 13-date stadium shows they did in the U.K. islands in 2019.

She explained that the plan was to reward their loyal fans in the U.S., as they deserved it for continuing to back them up even after so many years off the stage.

Victoria Beckham's Reunion Interest Extended By TV Show

Geri Halliwell's, aka Ginger Spice, exit from the group in 1998 led to the unfortunate dissolving of the band. Although she returned after a while, the "American Idol" guest judge's absence seemed the longest.

The Blast shared that they made amends at the 2012 London Olympics. Still, it did not stop the star from becoming reluctant to return to the group, especially after becoming majorly successful on her own.

That changed as Beckham warmed up to the idea of returning but not necessarily to performing per MetroUk. It was reported that she reprised her role in a doc-series created by the same team behind the Michael Jordan series, "The Last Dance."

During an appearance, Mel B, aka Scary Spice, noted, "The director and the whole concept of how it was shot and filmed are really, really good. So we'll be doing our version with them." Each member revealed their take on the fortune, fame, and fandom achieved together.
