Brooke Shields Commemorates 'Pretty Baby' Documentary Announcement With Instagram Photo

Brooke Shields and her decade-spanning career are getting the documentary treatment!

"Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields," the documentary made by George Stephanopoulous' production company BedBy8, was announced on Tuesday morning. The documentary, directed by Lana Wilson, will be part of the 2023 Sundance lineup. Wilson directed the intimate Netflix documentary about Taylor Swift, "Miss. Americana."

Stephanopoulos revealed the documentary's cover art on Twitter this morning, and Shields got in on the fun by sharing its poster with her social media followers as well.

Shields rose to fame as a teenager after acting in controversial films "Pretty Baby" and "The Blue Lagoon." Her sexualized 1980 Calvin Klein jeans campaign also raised a lot of eyebrows. Regardless of the fanfare at the time, Shields' work became a popular culture staple in its own right, and she became one of the most well-known names of the era.

In the four decades since Shields became a household name, the cultural conversation has changed quite a bit, and outlooks have been altered; she has discussed her child star upbringing and the controversial decisions made surrounding her career in a number of interviews in recent years, including on her own podcast, "Now What? With Brooke Shields."

The media's treatment of Shields at the time was also recalled following Barbara Walters' passing; The Blast recently covered details surrounding a controversial 1981 interview between Walters and Shields.

According to ABC News' report on the documentary, "Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields" will follow Shields' "journey in the public eye while holding a mirror up to a society that 'objectifies women and girls.''

Shields will be prominently featured as she looks back on her past, as she discover[s] and embrac[es] her own identity and agency," ABC also reports.

Following the documentary's Sundance run, it will stream on Hulu. No streaming date has been revealed at this time.

Shields posted a snapshot of the film's poster on both her Twitter and Instagram, writing, "Honored to share the key art for 'Pretty Baby' with you I'm so excited for you to see this documentary premiering at @sundanceorg this week and coming to @hulu soon," in her post's Instagram caption!

Several of Shields' followers were on hand to celebrate, including some famous faces! Model Christie Brinkley commented, "Brava Brooke!" with a series of emojis.

Chelsea Handler wrote, "Ooh la la! Exciting" and Cindy Crawford commented a hand-clapping emoji.

On Shields' Twitter announcement, the official Twitter for Hulu wrote, "your story, your way" along with a clapping hands emoji as well.

All In Together founder Lauren Leader commented, "Nice to see/meet you on the flight Saturday night. Congratulations this looks amazing. Can't wait to watch," she tweeted.

Writer Eve, also known as The Angry Empath on Twitter wrote, "Wow, Brooke! Really looking forward to this! You know, my favorite point in your career was when we learned what a fabulous sense of humor you have. I think I first saw it in 'Freeway.' And then we got 'Suddenly Susan.' It was really great to see!"

Stephanopoulos also called the documentary "a great passion project," and detailed that his wife Alexandra Wentworth, "brought it about a year and a half ago, and she's friends with Brooke, and we have access to Brooke's entire archives."

He also added Shields "saved literally every photograph, every ad, every interview over 40 years." Stephanopoulos also gave a shout-out to Wilson in the ABC News interview, saying, "Lana did an incredible job putting together and telling a story that is really a universal story..."

Shields' podcast "Now What? With Brooke Shields" is available to stream on multiple streaming platforms!
