In the comments of a video Mellencamp recently posted on Instagram, not everyone was kind. The video, captioned, "I was feeling a little sad having to send the kiddos back to school today. It lasted 3 minutes ? Who else out there feels me?" had many writing in the comments that they can relate.

And then there were the other comments that weren't so nice. "She went too far with the work on her face," "I thought you weren't bleaching anymore now that hair is dead and don't go shorter you need someone who knows what they're doing," "Your under eye wrinkles your to young for that grow your hair out," "Abusing your children.. wow," were some of the mean comments Mellencamp's video received.

In her most recent Instagram post, a carousel of photos including a selfie and screenshots of some bullying comments Mellencamp has received, the reality star and podcast host let the mean people making unnecessary comments know she wants to hold them accountable for their actions.

"I enjoy using social media to share my life, my family, my struggles… but also my sense of humor, my personality, a 360 view of who I am," she begins her caption. "What I don’t understand is the need to leave negative comments attacking my face, my body, my person. I know we are told to just ignore, but why should we? Why shouldn’t we hold these people accountable for saying things they wouldn’t say to somebody in person. Things they wouldn’t want said to them or their mothers, daughters, or sisters."

She concluded her caption by saying, "So I’m sharing this to say: just keep scrolling. Otherwise, maybe look in a mirror and ask yourself why saying something rude on a stranger’s page brings your joy."

Mellencamp is known to her social media followers as someone who shares her experiences in the hopes of helping others. In early December, Mellencamp updated her followers on her on-going melanoma journey with a photo of her surgery scars and information on the pathology findings. She also has continually reminded her fans to get checked throughout her entire journey.

"Finally here with another melanoma update, and it’s one I’m happy to share. Pathology is back— the surgeries were successful and the margins are clear. I also got genetic testing results and there are no mutations we need to worry about," she wrote.

She continued her caption by reminding her followers that mammograms are necessary, too. "And I just had a healthy mammogram (please don’t forgo these either, ladies)."

She then explained her new feeling of peace. "So I say peace out to 11 melanomas and 3 lymph nodes— I gladly hardly knew ya— and hello to a new sense of peace. It’s been eye-opening how quickly things can change and it’s a lesson I will never forget, nor quit speaking up about. I want nothing more than for all of you to be proactive so you do not have to experience this. Let my scars be your inspiration to get preventative care."

Mellencamp also recently shared a family photo with a caption that talks about anxiety awareness. "Here’s the thing about anxiety: you can show the world a smile, but still be struggling inside. There are days it’s sitting there, gnawing at you, waiting to be unleashed, taking control of your mind. And there are days when it lies dormant and you feel amazing," she wrote.

"Since my melanomas, they took me off my hormones, and my sleep and anxiety have gotten worse. Placebo affect? I’m not sure. That’s why I’m asking all the women out there who have the same struggle— how’s your year going so far? Being vulnerable about these things and reminding myself I am not alone in this always tends to help. We’re better together."

One of her followers thanked her for speaking up on a topic that's not always openly discussed. "Thank you for being open about this. If we normalized anxiety and mental health awareness, this world would be a much kinder place. Mental health education and acceptance would create a giant, collective, healing exhale."
