About 48 hours after attending the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of the late Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley passed away in Calabasas, California.
Just like her father, who died at 42 and whom she outlived, LMP, as she was fondly known, was an established figure in the entertainment industry and suffered a cardiac arrest in her home, leading to her tragic death at 54.
Lisa Marie Presley Was Confirmed Dead At 54 After A Critical Heart Attack
On Thursday, January 12, the famed songwriter, who lost her son Benjamin Keough almost three years ago, was rushed to the West Hills Hospital and Medical Center after having a heart attack.
Before she was transported, emergency experts performed CPR on her and gave her epinephrine. Unfortunately, she was ultimately confirmed dead in the hospital, and her mother released a corroborating statement.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," Priscilla began.
She added that the "Lights Out" songstress was the "most passionate, strong, and loving woman" she had ever known before pleading for privacy as the family grieved over "this profound loss." The actress then appreciated everyone for their "love and prayers" and said there would be no "further comment" on the matter.
Hours before, we reported that the 54-year-old was in critical condition with no signs of improvement. She was put into an induced coma and administered a temporary pacemaker. While LMP was in intensive care at the medical center, Priscilla, who wore an all-black outfit, was also seen heading to the hospital upon hearing the heartbreaking news.
It appeared that the "Storm & Grace" singer and her father sadly shared the same fate, as Elvis died from a cardiac arrest in 1977 at his Memphis "Graceland" mansion.
In addition, the King of Rock 'n' Roll was addicted to prescription barbiturates, possibly adding to his untimely passing.
Elvis Presley's Career Was On A Roll Before His Death
It is no news that Elvis had an extraordinarily successful career as a musician, earning the title of "King of Rock and Roll" and becoming one of the most famous musicians to ever live.
However, it all began with his first single, "That's All Right," released in 1954. According to reports, he began pursuing his musical dream after graduating high school in 1953 and got mentored by Sam Philips, a record label owner, after cutting his first demo record.
In 1955, the "Love Me Tender" actor gained attention from fans drawn to his eccentric musical style and dashing looks. He got signed to DCA Records in the same year through a deal worked out by his manager Colonel Tom Parker.
Not long after, Elvis scored his first No. 1 album and chart-topping single with "Heartbreak Hotel," leading him to sign a movie contract with Paramount Pictures. Still, on a roll, he was featured in his first movie, "Love Me Tender," in 1956, a box office hit, but he had to leave for military service the following year, serving in Germany for almost two years.
Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to his career, topping charts in no time with the soundtrack for his movie "GI Blues." The multifaceted artist kept making music and starring in more films; although some were not always a hit with viewers, his soundtracks sold well.
In the late 1960s, Elvis started losing his box-office charm. Still, he recorded his first TV special in 1968, entrancing viewers with his outstanding performance as a vocalist and guitarist, proving he was still unrivaled.
The "Now What" Star Had A Shorter Music Career Than Her Father
Unlike the legendary Elvis, his daughter found her calling in music much later in life. Lisa recorded her first demo in 1992 but rejected the record contract proposed to her afterward.
Biography reported that she eventually released her first album, "To Whom It May Concern," on April 8, 2003, debuting at the fifth spot on the Billboard 200 charts and certifying gold in June of the same year.
The mother-of-four then dropped her second album, "Now What," on April 5, 2005, and it was No. 9 on the Billboard 200 charts.
Two years later, she recorded "In the Ghetto" as a posthumous duet with Elvis. The music video reached the top spot on iTunes and No. 16 on the Billboard singles chart.
In 2012, LMP's third album, "Storm & Grace," went live. And not only did she have a successful music career, but she was also a co-trustee of her father's estate, alongside her mother and the National Bank of Commerce.
