Latin artist and global superstar Bad Bunny didn't take too kindly to a fan waving their phone in his face.

A clip of the rapper went viral earlier this week, which showed him throwing a fan's phone into the water. Following this, Bad Bunny released a statement addressing the issue.

This was one out of several positive encounters with fans over the past few weeks. While the "La Noche De Anoche" singer enjoys spending time with them, he said he only asks for "respect" whenever they come around for autographs or selfies.

The viral video showed the Grammy Award winner walking down a road as a fan approached him. The fan then shoved her phone in Bad Bunny's face as she tried to record them together. After smiling a little, the rapper took the phone and threw it away. The video then showed the phone landing in a body of water nearby.

The viral video has shocked several fans on social media, with some agreeing with his action and others condemning it. While referring to a clip that showed singer Dua Lipa in a similar situation, a disgruntled Twitter fan wrote, "This is how you denny [sic] a picture, not throwing your fans phones to a river. Remember if they weren't there you would never be where you are."

In response to the backlash, the star put out a statement to explain why he reacted that way.

On Monday, the "La Santa" singer took to Twitter to explain his side of the story in a statement he wrote in Spanish. He revealed that he likes to spend time with fans and assured them that he respects them. However, he wouldn't watch them disrespect him and do nothing about it.

He wrote, "The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect." Referring to the water incident, he continued, "Those who come and put a f***ing phone in my face, I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect, and I will treat it likewise."
