Marriage isn't always a bed of roses. The former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, made some honest remarks about the state of her marriage to former President Barack Obama at some point in the past.

Michelle disclosed that her marriage, like every other, had trying times and sour moments, adding that there was a 10-year period "she couldn't stand" her husband.

The couple, who got married in 1992, had to work through the imbalances and instabilities they experienced as they recently celebrated the Pearl anniversary of their marriage.

Michelle Obama Couldn't Stand Her Husband

During her recent chat with Revolt TV, the former first lady opened up about the trials and challenges she had to conquer in her marriage with former President Barack Obama.

Michelle, 58, revealed there was a decade-long period in her relationship where she felt an aversion towards her husband, adding that it happened when their kids were still very young.

"People think I'm being catty by saying this — it's like, there were 10 years where I couldn't stand my husband," she said per People. "And guess when it happened? When those kids were little."

The former first lady, an attorney by training, admitted that their marriage hit a rough patch when she was exclusively responsible for their two kids, Malia (presently 24) and Sasha (currently 21). Back then, her husband's political career was just taking off.

Michelle Obama Says Marriage Isn't Equal

The Light We Carry author also expressed an open viewpoint on the amount of investment made by each partner in a marriage, asserting that it is never equally distributed.

After citing that their marriage's most challenging times occurred when they were both attempting to further their careers and concerned about school and other obligations, Michelle said she realized that marriage isn't equitable.

"...And guess what? Marriage isn't 50/50, ever, ever," she remarked. Further adding, "There are times I'm 70, he's 30. There are times he's 60, 40, but guess what? 10 years — we've been married 30. I would take 10 bad years over 30 — it's just how you look at it. And people give up . . . 'Five years; I can't take it.'"

The couple has traversed the stormy waters as they recently celebrated the Pearl anniversary of marriage.

The former first lady and her husband first met in 1989 and got married three years later. To mark the event, the former president, 61, posted several photos of him and his wife where he was seen laying his head on her shoulder at a beach. In another photo, their names were crested sand with a large heart drawn around it.

He also posted a black and white photo of their wedding day and captioned it, "Miche, after 30 years, I'm not sure why you look exactly the same and I don't. I do know that I won the lottery that day—that I couldn't have asked for a better life partner. Happy anniversary, sweetheart!"

His wife returned the gesture via her Twitter handle, saying, "Happy anniversary to the man I love! These last 30 years have been an adventure, and I'm grateful to have you by my side. Here's to a lifetime together. I love you, @BarackObama!"

Loving Tributes Poured In From Fans Following Their Anniversary

As the couple celebrated their 30th marriage anniversary, they were greeted with heartwarming congratulations from fans and followers.

A follower tweeted, "Happy anniversary First Lady and President Obama. May you have more decades of happiness ahead. Thank you very much for your many years of public service & being a great all-around example for millions of people from different backgrounds and stations in life. Very proud of you!"

Another fan congratulated them, saying, "Happy anniversary to my favorite president and first lady!! You both embody integrity and class, and humanity. Thank you for being exceptional humans and Americans!"

Another follower said "30 years of marriage and both of you have only aged 5 years! Congratulations on both!"

A very excited fan gushed over their relationship and said it was made in heaven. "What a lovely couple! Sent from heaven indeed, loved by the whole world."
