Prince William And Kate Middleton's Reaction To 'Harry & Meghan'
Per Us Weekly, Harry and Meghan's eponymous documentary, "Harry and Meghan," has dealt a massive blow to the royals, particularly his relationship with his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law Princess Kate.
A source for the news outlet revealed that William and Kate were still reeling from the effect of the six-episode docuseries, which unearthed several personal details about the senior royals they would not have wanted out in public.
According to the source, Kate seems to be the worst hit by the bombshell documentary, as she feels Harry "betrayed" a bond they once shared.
The source said, "Kate feels hurt and betrayed that Harry would do this to her too, especially as the pair used to be so close."
Meanwhile, William is taking the high road on the matter and "isn't planning to give his side of the story or openly retaliate." The insider said about William, "He's remaining dignified and is getting on with the job."
Prince William Is 'Disappointed' With Prince Harry
Although there might not be any impending retaliation from William, the senior royal is reportedly unhappy with how the Netflix documentary placed his family in a "cynical light."
From all indications, this is a blow to many, implying that any plans for a full reconciliation might no longer exist.
"He's disappointed with Harry for portraying him and the family in a cynical light," the insider said, per Us Weekly. "William was hoping they could move on after the CBS interview [in March 2021], but Harry airing his dirty laundry has only heightened the conflict between the two brothers and resulted in them taking a step backwards."
"Harry and Meghan" was released in two parts, each consisting of three one-hour episodes, on December 8 and 15, respectively. It has since received a lot of views from all over the world and was the most-watched Netflix show launched in the U.K. in 2022.
Meghan Markle Discussed Meeting Kate Middleton For The First Time
While the documentary mostly focused on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's personal lives, including their romance, parenthood, and momentous decision to step down as senior royals, William and Kate would occasionally be mentioned.
One such moment was a scene that showed Meghan discussing the wide cultural gap between Britons and Americans.
"Even when William and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, and I remember I was in ripped jeans, and I was barefoot," the former actress said in an episode that debuted in the documentary's first part, via Us Weekly.
She added, "I was a hugger. I've always been a hugger. I didn't realize that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door, and you go, 'Oh, alright, OK, I can relax now,' but that formality carries over on both sides, and that was surprising to me."
Prince Harry's Royal Exit Strained His Relationship With Other Senior Royals
Harry and Meghan talked about the barrage of racial criticism that the "Suits" alum suffered from U.K. tabloids. Additionally, the pair claimed that William had given the go-ahead for one of the royal aides' efforts to oppose Meghan's legal actions against the Daily Mail.
In a different episode, the Prince of Wales was also brought up as Harry reflected on the aftermath of him and Meghan dropping their senior royal positions.
"It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that just simply weren't true, and my grandmother [Queen Elizabeth II] quietly sit there, and sort of take it all in," Harry revealed per Us Weekly. "But you have to understand that — from the family's perspective — especially from hers, there are ways of doing things, and her ultimate sort of mission, goal, slash responsibility is the institution."
