The Magnolia Network personality disclosed that she went under the knife for back surgery as a result of a decades-old accident.

Gaines took to social media to share the update on her health with her fans. She could be seen on the hospital bed, covered in blankets, and flashing the peace sign in the Instagram shot she posted.

"I hurt my back in high school from cheerleading- basically a basket toss turned back injury and I've been dealing with it ever since," Gaines captioned the photo.

She continued by saying that she had her first microdiscectomy back in 2001 and had to cancel her second date with Chip Carter Gaines, who is now her husband and a fellow reality TV personality.

A microdiscectomy is a surgical procedure that helps with pain management on a herniated disc in the spine.

Gaines explained how her back issue made her anxious because it came at a bad moment, but despite that, she is still able to find the positive in her circumstances.

She mentioned that the impending surgery at the time had her concerned because it was the holiday and Christmas season. She did, however, thank the procedure for the "forced rest" it afforded her, calling it a "gift."

"But I'm truly grateful for the forced rest during the busiest time of the year," the reality star said as she gave fans a peek into her recuperation at home.

She further went on to add, "It has been a gift to simply stay put, stare at the wonder all around, and just be still."
