Selena Gomez Comments On A TikTok About Her Weight
Disney alum Gomez recently posted a sad response to a TikTok video about her and her former beau, Justin Beiber. The TikTok video showed several pictures of the actress from years ago looking considerably skinner than she did now. It was captioned, "The reason why Selena is always skinny when she dates Justin."
The clip also showed the artist's response to a comment a fan had made about Gomez and Bieber, stating that although the "Peaches" artist had "messed up," they still supported their relationship. Gomez's comment read, "No love. He's rather models. I'm just too normal."
Gomez's recent comment was much simpler but still drove social media into a frenzy. She left a sad emoji on the post, which the TikTok creator responded to with "YOU DID NOT" and two crying face emojis.
Fans' Response To The Singer's Comment
The slideshow video was uploaded on November 29 and currently has 4 million views, while Gomez's comment alone has 48k likes. Several social media users supplied what they thought her sad emoji meant, some claiming that she was reflecting on her time with Bieber. In contrast, others said she was showing disapproval over her body being put under scrutiny.
A fan wrote, "maybe she's upset you guys are constantly bringing up her body changing over the years. She has a right to react to her OWN life."
"She could literally be putting a sad face because people are talking about her weight or bringing this all backup years later," another read.
A fan of the star slammed the video saying, "She was always slim, she just gained a bit weight now, but she's still beautiful. Y'all are reaching." There were also several comments about her 2015 Lupus diagnosis and how it caused her to take several medications and ultimately get a kidney transplant in 2017.
Selena Gomez Said Her Lupus Medication Makes Her Weight Fluctuate
Gomez has been open over the last few years about her body and how she had lost and gained weight frequently due to her Lupus medication. During an appearance on the "Giving Back Generation" podcast in 2019, she revealed that she had struggled with it, mainly because she needed to take the medications for the rest of her life.
"I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me, that's when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff," the actress said. "So, for me, I really started to notice when people started attacking me for that."
"And in reality, that's just my truth; I fluctuate... And that got to me big time. I think for me, that really messed me up for a bit." Gomez explained that besides the medication, her weight also depends on the month.
Selena Gomez Found 'Strength' After Break Up With Justin Bieber
Two years after she and Bieber finally separated, Gomez revealed that she was able to find "strength" in the breakup. While talking to Lulu Garcia Navarro on NPR, she said, "'It's dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I'm not being disrespectful; I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse,' the star had admitted, adding that the abuse was 'emotional.'"
More recently, the "Same Old Love" crooner revealed that she had started reflecting on her past relationship with Bieber in a much more positive light. In her documentary, "Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me," the artist revealed that she needed to go through the breakup at the time.
"I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever," Gomez said via People. "I just think that needed to happen, and ultimately, it was the best thing that ever happened to me."
