'Black Women' Flood Trevor Noah's Instagram With Love After Farewell Speech

After seven years on "The Daily Show", Trevor Noah bid it a tearful adieu. While his exit has been a planned one, given that he's going on tour with his "Off The Record" show, his last time hosting "The Daily Show" was full of comedy, as always, and emotional moments that showed Noah slightly teary-eyed.
Here's what Noah had to say, and the fan reactions that followed.
Trevor Noah Remembers The Empty Seats
Noah began by thanking everyone who ever watched the Comedy Central show, as he spoke with slightly red eyes, "I’m grateful to you every single one of you. I remember when we started the show, we couldn’t get enough people to fill an audience."
As the audience clucked over that, he reassured them that he was okay with that, and that's how comedy works, with empty seats to start out with.
He continued to say, "I look at this now and I don’t take it for granted ever. Every seat that has ever been filled to watch something I’m doing is always appreciated because I know the empty seat that sits behind it."
His emotional speech was enough to leave some in the audience sniffling as well, as he further extended his gratitude, "Thank you to people who watch, the people who share the clips, everyone who’s had an opinion, everyone who’s been kind enough and gracious enough, even if it’s a critique."
He even thanked the people who "hate-watch" his show, the ones who later create memes and mean social media posts, quipping, "We still got the ratings, thank you."
A Special Thanks To All Black Women
With Noah leaving, "The Daily Show" will take a break and be back on January 17th with some prominent guest hosts, before a new host or hosts fills in the big shoes left by Noah on a permanent basis, next fall.
The guest hosts include Chelsea Handler, Kal Penn, Al Franken, Sarah Silverman, Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans, and Hasan Minhaj.
Toward the end of his farewell speech, Noah gave a special shout-out to Black women.
Said the man, "I’ve often been credited with having these grand ideas. Who do you think teaches me, who do you think has shaped me, nourished me, informed me? From my mom, my gran, my aunts, all these black women in my life but then in America as well."
He continued to emphasize, "I always tell people, if you truly want to learn about America, talk to Black women. Because unlike everybody else Black women can’t afford to f--k around and find out. Black people understand how hard it is when things go bad."
He also spoke about the work of "Bad Feminist" author Roxane Gay, NY Times columnist Tressie Mcmillan Cottom and MeToo founder Tarana Burke, saying, “I’m grateful to them, I’m grateful to you."
He signed off with, "This has been an honor" to resounding applause.
