Drew Barrymore Prefers Her Kids Have Memories Over Gifts During Christmas

Drew Barrymore is focused on making memories with her kids and not just giving them materialistic possessions for Christmas.

The actress shared with Entertainment Tonight that she and her daughters Frankie and Olive like to spend time together and travel sometimes. On Christmas morning they could wake up anywhere in the world.

“I always take them on a trip every Christmas,” she says but does admit that they “don't love” not having gifts to open on a special morning. “I just feel like a better gift would be a life memory. I'd rather invest [in that than in] a doll house or something.”

“It all evens out and it's fine,” she admits they don’t complain when they do actually get something.

“I'm not like some weird, strict, cold mom who's like, ‘You don’t get any gifts!’” she said. Noting that all year round her children get gifts so it’s not like she is starving them of materialistic things; they aren’t all bad.

She admits that during COVID, their travel plans were obviously foiled. And she fully embraced Christmas. “I'm fine to skip this. This sucks,” she said of the weird pandemic that took over three years of everyone’s life and still continues to do so for some.

E.T. also snuck in some love questions for Barrymore who only recently said she can do without sex. “I take breaks and then I'm like, 'You know what? I'm ready to try this again,’” she says of her love life.

“As I'm getting older, behavior is sort of everything to me. It's like my north star,” she admits. While most people go to looks when they are younger, Barrymore is now seeking more. “With dating I'm like, 'How do they behave?' When somebody's like, 'He's so hot.' I'm like, ‘Yeah, but does he behave well? 'Cause that will make him 10 times hotter or not.’”

Barrymore loves the idea of a relationship but has also embraced her life as a single mother. She is learning to “celebrate” being single and what comes along with it. The hopeless romantic in her is still there though.

“Somebody is gonna come in there and sweep you off your feet and then that time will be gone and you'll be living with somebody else.” Therefore, that single time is something you must embrace she believes.

“You need to enjoy the [single] time before that happens.”

However, Drew is now past that singlehood, she admits to E.T. that she is seeing a guy! The two have gone on several dates “which is a big deal.” Don’t get it twisted it’s not like she is sitting around expecting this guy to sweep her off her feet.

Barrymore is too busy for that her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show has risen exponentially in numbers and she is “very grateful” for all the success so there is no way she is backing down now to follow love.

It can play second fiddle in this next stage of her life.
