Ice Cube Is Close To Getting 'Friday' Film Franchise Back From Warner Bros.

Ice Cube is ready to bring back the Friday movie franchise just as soon as the Warner Bros. contract is up!

The rapper appeared on a recent episode of the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast where he spoke about the film, its popularity and Warner Bros.'s hold on the franchise being over very soon.

“I don’t know. Warner Brothers is weird right now. I don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t know what they’re doing,” admitted the rapper, real name O’Shea Jackson.

“We’d love to have it back. I think it’s gonna be close to a time when we can get it back. So we’ll either wait for that time, or we’ll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie,” notes Cube who took it back to his NWA days with his stern phrasing.

The rapper-turned-filmmaker made it clear, “It’s my movie, but they have distribution control.” The contract is allegedly going to be up soon, and the rapper is hoping to move forward at some point with the story of Craig and his neighborhood, wherever it ends up being in the fourth installment.

Cube seems a little bitter about the entire situation, but can you blame him? His franchise is in contract hell. Don’t get it twisted though, he has zero intentions of going above and beyond to get it back. “I ain’t putting s**t up for it. F**k no,” he insisted.

Cube elaborated. “They need to give it to me, and they’re gonna make money…I’m not [going] to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid.” He insists that if the company just handed the film over, they would be making money already.

“They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy, and people will have a good time with the series. We can do a lot with it.”

Cube has been working behind the scenes for years to make this happen. He is dying to get in there and tell more stories surrounding Craig and his friends and family but Warner Bros. is continuing to be sketchy.

Cube appeared on the “Drink Champs” podcast where he initially spoke about his troubles with Warner Bros.

“I’m trying to get it out of Warner Brothers, they don’t believe in the culture man… I had two scripts. I wrote one; it was the s**t. They was like, ‘Yo, we don’t want Craig and Day-Day in jail, ’cause Craig and Day-Day went to jail for selling weed before it was legal!”

The rapper continues on to say that Warner Bros. is kind of playing a game with him and his scripts.

“Then after they rejected it they had all these f*****g movies about going to jail: Orange Is The New Black … Get Hard. So then I wrote another script, and the script was really about … the youngsters in the hood having beef with the OG’s in the hood, and Craig has to come back and squash that because Smokey’s son is the new Deebo and he’s wylin! They tripped on it man, they f****d around, and then John Witherspoon passed. Then Deebo passed … they just f****d it up.”

The actor claimed that Warner Bros. has been struggling to find a place to fit the popular comedy. “They just kept giving you note after note after note, never giving you the green light.” He described the film as being in “developmental hell”.
