John Krasinski may be well known for his role on "The Office," among other television shows and movies, but his kids aren't exactly on board with his fame just yet. During a recent visit to "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," the "Quiet Place" star revealed that his daughters, Hazel, 8, and Violet, 6, have some confusion about his time on the hit show.
"So What's The Deal With This Office Thing?"
"They literally just started watching 'The Office.' By the way, started watching, I showed them one episode," he said when Colbert asked if they've ever seen the show. "Their actual quote, we were driving, and from the backseat I heard, 'So what's the deal with this Office thing?' I was like, okay, that's a big question, we'll cut it down in bite-sized morsels. So Emily was like, just show them the pilot."
John Krasinski's Daughters Think He Works In An Office
Krasinski's daughters, who he shares with wife Emily Blunt, have some confusion about what their dad does for a living. They think he actually works in an actual office. "The reason I think that is because I was walking them to school one day, and this guy came up, and he was very nice, he went, 'John! From 'The Office,'" he explained. "I went, 'Yeah,' and he said, 'Oh my God, it's so good to see you,' and I said, 'Thanks' and he kept walking."
After witnessing this exchange, the actor's daughter asked, "So, you work with him?" to which he responded, "No." "And she goes, 'Why are you lying to me?," he continued. "I went, 'I'm not lying to you.' She goes, 'No, he just said he knows you from the office.'"
Watching the episode with the girls brought up more questions for Krasinski to talk his way through. "They were watching the first episode and my oldest, it turns out she's a screen talker-atter, so she's talking to the screen. When Steve fired Jenna, she goes, 'What are you doing?' then she goes, 'You're a horrible person,'" he said. He then jokingly told her, "'You should meet Steve Carrell.'"
Violet Didn't Think It Was Her Dad On TV Because He Looked Different
The confusion and questions didn't end with Hazel. Violet also had some things to say. "My 6-year-old kept asking, 'Is that you?' And she says, 'You look very different.' I was like, 'I'll try not to take that as a hurtful thing,' but sure, I say, 'No, that's me, I was just playing a character,' and she went 'Pfff, that's not you,'" he explained. "Then we watched two more episodes, and she goes, 'That's not you. That guy looks a lot like you though."
Colbert suggested maybe showing the kids the U.K. version of the show that aired from 2001 to 2003, but Krasinski already had an idea what his daughter's reaction would be. "She'll love that," he said. "Then she'll be like, 'There's a British version of you?' And I'll be like, 'Yeah.'"
The Girls Were "Oblivious" To Their Parents Fame Until Recently
When Colbert asked Krasinksi if his kids think he's cool because he's on TV, he said his wife had a "head start on cool points" because she was in "Mary Poppins." "I think my kids thought that she had married me out of like charity, they were like, 'You're so nice to marry an accountant' like that's so nice of you because they don't know what I do," he said with a laugh.
Last year, Blunt told The Sunday Times that the girls are "oblivious" to their parents' fame, and that's something she wants to stay that way. "If they can remain oblivious for the longest time I'd be thrilled," she said. "They don't even want to see what I do. They don't even like it when I put on makeup. They don't like any of it. They just want me to be their mommy."
