The designer who has worked with the brand since 2015, made it clear that he does not agree with their latest advertising campaign and even apologized for associating with the brand. The brand is facing backlash after featuring young children in their campaign holding teddy bears clad in bondage gear.

“Personal Message,” opens Demna before jumping into his lengthy apology. “I want to personally apologize for the wrong artistic choice of concept for the gifting campaign with the kids and I take my responsibility,” he writes.

“It was inappropriate to have kids promote objects that had nothing to do with them,” he admits. “As much as I would sometimes like to provoke a thought through my work, I would NEVER have an intention to do that with such an awful subject as child abuse that 1 condemn. Period.”

Demna Is Taking This As A Learning Experience

The designer went on to admit the experience has humbled him in ways. “I need to learn from this, listen and engage with child protection organizations to know how I can contribute and help on this terrible subject.”

He again apologizes to those who have been affected by the brand's insensitive display. “I apologize to anyone offended by the visuals and Balenciaga has guaranteed that adequate measures will be taken not only to avoid similar mistakes in the future but also to take accountability in protecting child welfare in every way we can. Sincerely Demna.”

He also scrubbed his IG page so the only message that appears is the apology.

Demna also posted the apology to his IG Stories and does not mention Balenciaga in his bio anymore, something that was definitely there before when he was promoting the Lays chips purse and other notable Balenciaga designs.

One thing that is a bit bothersome to us is that he has not mentioned if he plans on working with the brand in the future. Yes, he condemned their actions but at the end of his apology, he also says, “protecting child welfare in every way WE can” does this mean he is staying on and will be designing with them in the future?

This apology is giving Kim Kardashian flip-flop vibes. Balenciaga issued two apologies as well earlier this week and last week. “We would like to address the controversies surrounding our recent ad campaigns,” claims the label's second apology.

“We strongly condemn child abuse; it was never our intent to include it in our narrative. The two separate ad campaigns in question reflect a series of grievous errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility.”

After much backlash, she also shared that she has turned down campaigns with them since the drama started.
