According to their website, A Sense of Hope tries to prevent homelessness by creating homes for youth aging out of foster care with furniture and home goods that have been donated by good Samaritans. Their vision states that they “envision a society where the excess of businesses and individuals are shared through a community experience.”

They also seek to prevent furniture from being thrown into landfills. Instead, they want to donate unwanted furniture and appliances to those who could use them the most. According to the website, the organization believes “that homelessness can only be eradicated through the active participation by all community stakeholders when focusing on prevention.” Not only does donating furniture help those who receive it, but it also contributes to a greener environment.

A Sense of Home does not only focus on recycling furniture and household items. They also have a strong focus on home creation, transforming empty walls and floors into furnished, fully functional homes in order to prevent homelessness. They work in teams of volunteers, who have often been the recipients of A Sense of Home’s charity in the past.

According to the website, you can donate $7,000 to sponsor a full home for a family or only $1,000 to sponsor a child’s bedroom, although they accept donations of any amount. The organization states, “For A Sense of Home, the ability to create first-ever homes for youth aging out of the foster care system is essential in the fight to prevent homelessness. Unrestricted funds allow us to allocate resources most efficiently and to where the need is the greatest.”
