Jonah Hill‘s current, legal name is Jonah Hill Feldstein, but the Wolf of Wall Street actor wants to drop the name Feldstein.
Jonah Hill Petitions To Change His Name
In the petition, obtained by The Blast, Jonah Hill says his reason for changing his name is simply, “‘Jonah Hill’ is Petitioner’s professional name. Petitioner wants to make his professional name his legal name.” Jonah has a long list of credits under his professional name, and sometimes it’s more convenient to have your professional name match your legal name on paper. For example, actors are constantly signing contracts for new projects and if they have a stage name, there could be extra steps to make sure the contract is legally binding if their legal name is a completely different name. Luckily for Jonah Hill, he’s only dropping his last name, and making his middle name his official last name.
Interestingly, Jonah Hill has a sister that’s also in the entertainment business. Her name is Elizabeth Greer Feldstein, and most people know her as actress “Beanie Feldstein. Beanie recently starred in the hit Broadway revival, “Funny Girl”, and after a six-month run, actress Lea Michele took over. Fun fact, Lea Michele’s legal name is Lea Michele Sarfati, and like Jonah Hill, Lea’s professional name is her first and middle name.
The Three Famous Feldsteins
There are actually three famous Feldstein siblings. Jonah Hill’s late brother, Jordan Feldstein, was also involved in the entertainment industry, as a manager of the band, Maroon 5. Jordan tragically died almost five years ago, at the age of 40, from a blood clot. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office listed Jordan’s causes of death as a “pulmonary thromboembolism, a pulmonary embolism resulting from a clot originating somewhere else in the body” and “deep leg vein thrombosis”, a blood clot.
As we previously reported, a few other celebrities that want to legally go by their professional names. Most recently, Aaron Paul filed a petition in Los Angeles, asking a judge to change his name from Aaron Paul Sturtevant to just “Aaron Paul”. In fact, Aaron’s petition also included his wife and his son to legally have the last name “Paul”. Kanye West filed a petition earlier this year to change his name from Kanye Omari West, to simply “YE”. Kanye’s reason for changing his name was for “personal reasons”.
Kylie Jenner Changes Her Son’s Name
Kylie Jenner experienced a name change situation this year when she announced on her social media that she and her partner, rapper Travis Scott, decided they no longer called their son “Wolf”. Travis Scott’s legal name is Jacques Webster, and his son’s legal name was originally Wolf Jacques Webster. Kylie took to her Instagram to explain the situation and wrote, “FYI OUR SONS NAME ISN’T WOLF ANYMORE. WE JUST REALLY DIDN’T FEEL LIKE IT WAS HIM. JUST WANTED TO SHARE BECAUSE I. KEEP SEEING WOLF EVERYWHERE.” Kylie and Travis have yet to announce their son’s new name, but they’ll have to file a petition in court in order to legal change his name.
Jonah Hill’s name change petition still need’s a judge’s signature, but the process is pretty straight forward. A name change decree will most likely be issued in about a month or so.
