Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson has said that Warner Bros initially refused to greenlight the return of Henry Cavill as Superman.
Johnson, who is currently enjoying the success of his film, "Black Adam," in which Cavill made a cameo, revealed that he "worked hard" to ensure that Cavill returned despite the showrunners' initial wishes.
In a video on his Twitter page, he explained to his fans the importance of Cavill's return, saying that it needed to happen to "establish Black Adam as the most powerful, unstoppable force in the DC universe." He also shared that it would help build better narratives of the DC universe.

Dwayne Johnson On Why Henry Cavill's Cameo In 'Black Adam' Was Possible
Last week, Johnson took to Twitter to explain to fans why Cavill made an unexpected cameo in "Black Adam" as Superman.
In a video, the former pro wrestler explained that the "Enola Holmes" star needed to return to set up an ultimate clash between the two superpowered beings that would "establish Black Adam "as the most powerful, unstoppable force in the DC universe."

"We have to bring back the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe," Johnson said, hinting at future movies that would star the duo. "And you guys know who I'm talking about? Of course, that is Superman. And that's Henry Cavill."
Cavill is known for playing the iconic role across several DC movies, including "Man of Steel," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and "Justice League." However, for a while, it was uncertain whether the actor would return to reprise the character in other DC Films.
All that has changed, given his cameo in "Black Adam," and reports that "The Witcher" star has signed a new deal to continue in the role.
'This Has Been Years In The Making'
Elsewhere in his video, Johnson shared that DC showrunners had "inexplicably and inexcusably" refused to bring back Cavill to put on the cape. However, he refused to agree to their decision, and he and his team got to work trying to change their stance.
"This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back and years of strategic conversations, and we were not going to take no for an answer," he bluntly remarked.
He then opined that the emergence of Black Adam as a force to reckon with implied that it would have been absurd to keep developing new stories for the DC universe without including Superman.
He added, "There was no way, there's no viable logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines. It's impossible to do."
Dwayne Johnson Praised Henry Cavill As The Best Superman Of All Time
Johnson also lauded Cavill as the best to have played the Man of Steel, among other incarnates like Christopher Reeves, Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and Brandon Routh.
He revealed that Cavill's stellar portrayal of the role was also one of the reasons why he fought so hard to see him have another shot and that his return implied that the showrunners can "now build out the DC Universe, properly, strategically and smartly."
The former WWE star continued, "It all comes back to where Superman you have to have Superman in the mix. So that's why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill, and there was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back Henry Cavill is our generation Superman and in my opinion, the greatest Superman. And I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve, but the greatest Superman of all time.
'Black Adam'
In the meantime, "Black Adam" has continued to do huge numbers in theaters following its debut on October 21, 2022. It has grossed northwards of 350 million dollars and is set to garner even more following its release on VOD platforms on November 22, 2022, and a January 2023 release on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD.
The film introduced the origin story of Black Adam, setting the pace for other future movies based on the narrative. It also shone the spotlight on the Justice Society of America, starring Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
For now, it's unclear when Black Adam and Superman will have their encounter, although there is zero doubt that it is in the works. A crossover story between the character and Shazam, played by Zachary Levi and Asher Angel, is also expected to happen soon, but will most likely be after "Shazam 2" debuts in cinemas.
