One of the most iconic holiday movies is "The Santa Clause,"starring Tim Allen. Although the film is loved by many, fans of the movie have been questioning parts of the script and storyline, saying it doesn't all add up.
Now, Tim Allen himself is speaking out on those plot holes, agreeing with fans.
The Obvious Plot Hole In 'The Santa Clause'
The plot holes are something fans of the film have discussed for years. There is even an entire Reddit thread discussing Mrs. Clause, saying, “So here’s the realization I had. The previous Santa must have been under the same contractual obligations, meaning that somewhere back at the North Pole, he had a wife.” Okay, we’re following, but here’s the rub… We don’t see any sign of her by the time Tim Allen’s character gets there. What happened to her!?”
Many others chimed in with their own thoughts. One user suggested, “She automatically died when her husband did.”
Another hilariously said, “The elves found out her husband died, they told her to GTFO.”
Now, Tim Allen himself is addressing those plot holes. On a recent appearance of "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon," Tim Allen talked about some of the plot holes in the iconic holiday film, "The Santa Clause."
"I never understood, even in the movie, why the elves, when I showed up at the North Pole, didn't go 'Hey, what happened to the other guy?'," Allen began. "You know? I just hop in the sleigh with the kid and we go off. No one ever asks."
He continued, "Does Mrs. Clause know that other guy is dead? Did the other guy die?" To which even Jimmy Fallon admitted, "There's holes in the plot."
The 69-year-old went on to explain how the plot holes in the first film was something top of mind when writing the script for the new Disney+ Original Series "The Santa Clauses," which stars both Allen and his daughter, Elizabeth.
Original ‘Santa Clause’ Plot Originally Involved a Murder
In 2018, Allen appeared on "The Tonight Show" where he shared something that shocked many. “The original 'Santa Clause' is a little darker, written by two comedians. I actually shot and killed Santa, in the original movie,” Allen told Jimmy Fallon. “And he fell off the roof, because I thought he was a burglar. He gives me the card and the whole movie starts. And the kid goes, ‘You just killed Santa.’ And I said, ‘He shouldn’t have been on the roof when he wasn’t invited.'”
“I’m laughing so hard, but the head of Disney at the time, [Jeffrey Katzenberg], said, ‘Well, we can’t start a movie like that.’ I said, ‘Why not?’ He said, ‘Well, we can’t start a Disney movie with you murdering Santa Claus,'” Allen explained on The Tonight Show.
“I said, ‘I’m a comedian. Why not? That’s funny. You killed all the parents in your other movies anyway.’ Don’t they? They do that. I’m a comedian!”
"The Santa Clause" is currently streaming on Disney+.
