Letitia Wright is speaking up about the unfair standard she has been subjected to in Hollywood. It is no news that Wright is dominating the media with her impressive performance in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
However, her success is seemingly getting overshadowed by the anti-vaxx scandal which plagued her in 2020 amid the pandemic, and she is shutting down the backlash.
Letitia Wright Calls Out The Hollywood Reporter
On Monday, Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter published an article titled "How Personal Baggage Will Impact Oscar Chances," which detailed how the top contenders for the Oscars might have their prospects marred by personal scandal.
The contenders were listed as Wright, Will Smith, and Brad Pitt, and each of their baggage was discussed in detail. For Smith, it was his unforgettable anger outburst at 2022 Oscars that saw him slap comedian Chris Rock on Live TV after making a tasteless joke about his wife, Jada-Pinkett Smith.
As for Pitt, his ongoing divorce battle with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie who accused him of physically assaulting her and two of their children in 2016, when they were still married, on a private flight from France to California, still hangs over his head.
Finally, in Wright's case, the author Feinberg wrote, "she [Wright] did endure a fair share of bad publicity when she retweeted an anti-vax conspiracy video in December 2020 and then reportedly promoted anti-vax views on the set of the film. (She denies the latter.) Backlash became so strong that some fans on social media called for the role to be recast."
The "Black Mirror" actress wasn't at all pleased by the description and took to her Instagram Story to call out Feinberg and THR for painting her in such a vile manner and grouping her with men that have been accused of physical and sexual abuse.
"I had to unblock @ TheHollywoodReporter just to post this," Wright began her rant. "Scott Feinberg and all at this publication. You’re incredibly disrespectful. How dare you. You mentioned my name alongside men who have been accused of abuse and & sexual misconduct."
She continued, "This is vile behavior. At this point, a personal vendetta towards me. I've done nothing wrong but respectfully refused to do interviews with this publication.
Wright Claims She Apologized For Anti-Vaxx Rhetoric
The 29-year-old maintained in her statement that she apologized for promoting anti-vaxx rhetoric two years ago and "remained silent on the topic," yet they kept pushing a false narrative about her, spinning lies.
In her words, "You lied and said I continued talking about it with my cast & crew on my set. THIS WAS NOT TRUE. ASK MY PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR. The film was successful. Your agenda towards me is now even more clear. I won’t remain silent. Stop your disgusting behavior!"
In a follow-up update, Wright particularly came for Feinberg, writing, "This personal agenda with your friends at @hollywood reporter is disgusting. I've remained silent as the world told me to kill myself two years ago for a video I posted and apologised for. I kept my head down and focused on my craft. And now I'm on the other side of it."
She slammed the publicist for lacking "substance" and being jealous of the success of "Black Panther." Wright wrote, "How dare you? Did my performance rattle you that much? It was that excellent huh? I'm still here, still making impact, still creating projects that touch people's hearts, and it's not going to stop. Get a life, like for real."
In 2020, Wright got caught in a media storm when she posted an anti-vax video from a popular YouTuber known for his transphobia to her Twitter account, along with a caption that read, “if you don’t conform to popular opinions. but ask questions and think for yourself; you get canceled."
Although she followed up the tweet with an apology, noting that she had no intention of hurting anyone, news spread that Wright was encouraging her co-stars and crew not to vaccinate. Rumors surfaced she was banned from set but it turned out she suffered a traumatic injury on set.
