What You Should Know About John Wayne Bobbitt in the Wake of Lifetime Movie

In the 1990s, one of the most sensational stories to hit tabloids was the story of Lorena Bobbitt, now known as Lorena Gallo. Gallo had cut off part of her husband's penis with a knife from the kitchen and then threw it out of her car as she drove.
The Lifetime Network's movie about Gallo and her former husband, John Wayne Bobbitt, will premiere tonight at 8 p.m. ET. The film will showcase much of the pain Gallo endured leading up to incident, including alleged domestic abuse. Dani Montalvo and Luke Humphrey star in the film, but many viewers will have questions about Bobbitt. Where is he today?

The movie, "I Was Lorena Bobbitt," will detail some aspects of Bobbitt's life, thought it will largely focus on Gallo's experience.
Bobbitt grew up in Niagara Falls. Early in his life, Bobbitt was placed with his aunt and uncle as a child because his mother was a drug addict. He had two siblings and grew up in a religious home.
As a teenager, he joined the Marina with some friends. It was in 1988 that he met Lorena Gallo at a Marine Corps officers' ball. He thought she looked innocent and shy, and he gave her his phone number.

Bobbitt and Gallo wed in 1989, but marital bliss was short-lived. Bobbitt struggled to find a job after his military career ended, and Gallo became the provider for the family. They started to fight a lot.
Gallo revealed later that it took just one month of marriage before Bobbitt became abusive. She said that soon he was punching and choking her during fights. Today, Bobbitt denies any accusations that he abused his wife. He claims that she abused him and he would try to subdue her.

In 1993, Gallo cut off Bobbitt's penis with a knife from the kitchen. He was sleeping in bed when it happened. He immediately woke from the attack and tried to apply pressure to the wound. He asked a friend to take him to the hospital. His dismembered part had been thrown out of Gallo's vehicle, and she called 911 soon afterward.
Bobbitt underwent surgery to reattach his penis, which had been recovered. The surgery took over eight hours to complete.

Since the incident and the following court case, Bobbitt has been in and out of media. At first, he tried his hand in adult films. Later, he went on a comedy tour, appeared on many radio programs, and gave out autographs.
Most recently, Bobbitt spends time on social media supporting Donald Trump and making snide remarks about Gallo.
Lifetime's Memorial Day premiere of "I Was Lorena Bobbitt" has been largely advertised and is expected to be a popular film for the network.
