Johnny Depp recently sued his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for defamation. His trial in the United States against Heard was considered a win as the jury found Amber Heard defamed Johnny Depp by publicly accusing him of domestic abuse, and found that Depp proved Heard lied about her allegations.
During the trial, many witnesses took the stand, including Johnny Depp and Amber Heard themselves.
Amber's sister, Whitney Henriquez, also took the stand in defense of Amber and has continued to support the "Aquaman" actress post-trial.
"I still stand with you, sissy," Whitney wrote in an Instagram post over the summer. "Yesterday, today and tomorrow I will always be proud of you for standing up for yourself, for testifying both here in Virginia and in the U.K., and for being the voice of so many who can't speak to the things that happen behind closed doors."
Now, Whitney is speaking out against harassment following the trial, saying the world is "misogynistic."
Whitney Heard Says Johnny Depp Trial Showed "Major Flaws In the Judicial System"
It has been five months since the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial ended, but Amber Heard's sister, Whitney, says the harassment continues.
"To simply say that my faith in humanity has been called into question since the trial/verdict would be a gross understatement…," Whitney wrote in an Instagram post yesterday. "Not only did it highlight some pretty f***ing major flaws in the judicial system, it also showed just how deeply misogynistic this world is and how harassment of anyone who speaks out or has a differing opinion is just simply accepted (just take a look at some of the comments on my posts, and undoubtedly this one 😂)."
Whitney continued to express how she is scared to raise her kids in a world like this. "Its a world that I’m scared to raise my kids in, and every day it just seems harder and harder to navigate and deal with," she wrote.
Within the post, Whitney shared a handful of photos showing a list of organizations and individuals that have signed the open letter in support of Amber Heard.
She concluded with, "Until today…. Seeing this letter signed by over 130 experts and organizations now was a much needed breath of fresh air. Finally, the tides are shifting… Finally! #istandwithamberheard"
Amber Heard's Open Letter Of Support
As of Wednesday, November 15, more than 140 organizations and individuals signed an open letter in support of Amber Heard against "ongoing online harassment."
"Much of this harassment was fueled by disinformation, misogyny, biphobia and a monetized social media environment where a woman's allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault were mocked for entertainment," the letter states. "The same disinformation and victim-blaming tropes are now being used against others who have alleged abuse."
"In our opinion, the Depp v. Heard verdict and continued discourse around it indicate a fundamental misunderstanding of intimate partner and sexual violence and how survivors respond to it," the letter continues to read. "The damaging consequences of the spread of this misinformation are incalculable. We have grave concerns about the rising misuse of defamation suits to threaten and silence survivors."
The letter concludes with "We support the ability of all to report intimate partner and sexual violence free of harassment and intimidation."
