Lil’ Kim’s ‘Hardcore’ Was Released Today
The rapper’s album was released 26 years ago today. For some time now, there has been a debate regarding which female rapper was leading the game but it seems as though fans are still claiming Kim is the one true reign.
They took to Twitter to hype up the rapper and her album which featured Junior M.A.F.I.A. members like Notorious B.I.G., and Lil’ Cease. The album was produced by Puffy and released in 1996.
The album featured hits like “Crush on You”, “No Time’, and “Not Tonight” and hit number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Kim Has proved time and time again over the years that she’s stil got it and fans are reminding the new generation to put respect on her name.
Lil Kim Fans Go ‘Hard Core’
The rapper’s fans are on Twitter making it very clear that Lil’ Kim is the one true queen bee in addition to celebrating her album 26 years after it dropped, they are sharing snippets of the drama and harassment Kim went through from grown-ass men threatened by her music.
“THIS is why I won’t take any Lil Kim slander. The misogyny she went through was astonishing (not even surprising but angering nonetheless) and people still want to pretend she didn’t shape hip hop. She is hip hop. Period,” wrote one frustrated fan alongside a clip of the rapper being berated on a tala how back in 1997.
Her album had just dropped and while the younger generation was loving it, parents and politicians were accusing her of encouraging bad behavior from their children and telling them that it’s okay to do things like get an abortion or swear. Sound familiar?
One fan pointed out that Kim made that appearance with her mother! “Lil' Kim sat on that stage, next to her mother, and took all of that scrutiny. Just listening intently, never once allowing them to see her sweat.”
Some Lil’ Kim Fans Focused On The Fun Side
Some fans only remember the good side of the album and how empowered it made them feel. When Kim hit the stage no matter the year, her age, or the venue, it is always a vibe. She brings so much energy.
One fan posted a video of Kim performing her hits from Hard Core at the BET awards. “Remember @LilKim SLAYING this BET Awards performance 7 years ago? She is the moment! 👑🐝 PS: It’s @KellyRowland going into full stan mode for me! 💕,” they captioned the video. Pointing out that fellow celebs know Kim’s value to the rap game.
“No back-up dancers, no gimmicks, no outfit changes.. just raw talent and stage presence. no one does it like lil’ kim wow,” wrote a fan along with a video of the rapper performing her hit “Jumpoff”.
“It’s crazy Lil Kim struggled privately while making us all feel like the baddest bitch with her music. I will always give her flowers for that.”
Lil Kim Fans Slammed Nicki Minaj
As per usual, Lil Kim fans took a moment to slam Nicki Minaj keeping the silent beef between the two women alive.
“And the audacity of people to form a thought to think Nicki Minaj was the blueprint for anything... It was Lil Kim that paved the way for ALLLLLLLLL of the mainstream rap chicks to do what they do today. Give that woman her flowers 💐,” claimed a follower.
