In an interview with Variety, Applegate discussed her next steps for her acting career following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

The actress was diagnosed with the condition in August 2021 while filming season three of Netflix's "Dead To Me," which made the remaining portions of the production challenging to complete.

As she manages the symptoms of a reportedly incurable condition, Applegate claims she is still figuring out what she can and cannot do.

She admitted, per People, "I'm so new in this right now. It takes time to kind of figure out this disease, and figure out what's bringing on symptoms. I'm just a newbie to all of this.

The Primetime Emmy winner continued by expressing her ongoing sadness about the disruption the illness brought in her life.

While the actress did not rule out acting, she plans to only work on sets that would be understanding about her current condition, just like the cast and crew of the Netflix dramedy.

She said of acting future, "I have to find a place that's as loving as my set was, where they won't think I'm a diva by saying, 'Hey, I can only work five hours.'"

Per People, the team helped Applegate adapt throughout the rest of the production after the diagnosis. Some of their actions included removing some establishing shots in which she had to walk or assisting her in supporting her feet while filming a scene.

Sharing more updates on her health condition, Applegate said she still feels fatigued often but is getting stronger daily.

Having had the entirety of her being changed by MS, Applegate understands that people might no longer see her the same way. The actress admitted that it might also affect how viewers rate "Dead to Me" when it debuts on the streaming platform on November 17.

"If people hate it, if people love it, if all they can concentrate on is, 'Ooh, look at the cripple,' that's not up to me," she bluntly remarked.

She added, "I'm sure that people are going to be, like, 'I can't get past it.' Fine, don't get past it, then. But hopefully, people can get past it and just enjoy the ride and say goodbye to these two girls."

Applegate's current health issue is not her first rodeo facing such a trying ordeal. Back in 2008, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to go under the knife for a double mastectomy. She subsequently had her fallopian tubes and ovaries removed in 2017 to reduce her risk of developing more cancers.

In 2018, she had another surgery to induce menopause and has battled with insomnia for years, a condition she developed more than two decades ago.

While her past issues and current condition have taken much of a toll on Applegate, she still wants to be involved in the film industry in the future in even other capacities.

The "Bad Moms" star said, "I'd like to develop stuff, I'd like to produce stuff," she said. "I've got a lot of ideas in my mind, and I just need to get them executed."

In the meantime, she is enjoying being able to spend more time with her daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble, 11, who she shares with her husband, Martyn LeNoble.
