Simone Biles took less than hour to spark an unexpected – and very specific – debate on her Instagram today. The 23-year-old gymnast, now the world’s most decorated, updated her account on Sunday with a little poolside bikini action to wrap up the weekend. The low-key snap ticked boxes for showing the 30-time World and Olympic medalist’s muscle machine of a body, but Simone’s 3.8 million followers were quick to comment on her swimwear.
Keep scrolling for the snap, plus Simone’s mind-blowing “Handstand Challenge” that saw her lose her clothes.
Simone’s photo wasn’t overly flashy – the Ohio native may have said she’s “the best gymnast there is,” but she remains relatively modest when it comes to the swimwear updates. Seen perched poolside and shot from behind, Simone was catching the last of the weekend rays as she smiled, also rocking a cute, monochrome, and one-shouldered bikini with fun prints. Braided hair and sun-kissed skin completed the carefree vibe as Simone overlooked crystalline pool waters and greenery – “Never stop having sun,” she captioned the photo.
Clocking over 75,000 likes in two hours, the post was an immediate hit, but it likewise brought in a comment that turned into a mega debate.
“The top looks a little uncomfortable” was the launching comment. It did not go unnoticed.
“Sometimes it’s better to keep your mouth shut,” one fan clapped back.
“So the top does look a little bit tight? No need to offend her for saying that,” another user wrote.
“It’s called a lat. It’s a muscle. You should try working out some time” was another response.
“Why they talking sh-t. It literally just looks tight idk what the’re crying about,” a further comment read.
The photo comes amid a series of headline-making posts from Simone. April has seen the star front media outlets for showing off her mind-blowing gymnastics skills from her quarantine location – Simone stretching her legs out and swinging them up into a split was followed by the “Handstand Challenge,” with that video sitting at 2.2 million views. Likewise popular was Simone’s “wine to five” thirst trap.
Prior to the 2020 Olympics being postponed on account of COVID-19, Simone spoke out about confidence and her views on being the world’s most decorated gymnast.
“It’s important to teach our female youth that it’s okay to say, ‘Yes, I am good at this,’ and you don’t hold back,” Simone told USA Today.
“It’s not out of cockiness,” she went on, adding: “I’ve won five world titles, and if I say, ‘I’m the best gymnast there is,’ (the reaction is) ‘Oh, she’s cocky. Look at her now.’ No, the facts are literally on the paper. I think it’s important to teach (young girls) that.”
