Kurt Sutter, also responsible for 'The Shield', 'Southpaw', and 'Mayans M.C.', is opening up like never before about his popular shows and the 'SOA' sequel. With the success of 'Mayans M.C.', the show's spin-off, fans are eager to see what's next.

Last month in a Q-and-A session via his Instagram story, he revealed that he has the pilot for a new series already written, though it may be a while before anyone sees it due to the implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

'I've finished a pilot for a new series. It's in limbo now because of the obvious shift in priorities. I can't really divulge much,' Sutter wrote. He didn't offer too many details but did add-in, 'It's an anthology and it's driven by music.'

Everyone pretty much knew what was up, back in November when Sutter hinted that he was working on a new project that involved 'Harleys' but was still under contract so he couldn't say much. His contract has since been terminated.

Sutter's release from Fox, which was acquired by Disney, brings to question if the creator has rights to a 'Sons of Anarchy' sequel since 'Mayans M.C.' is continuing on to its' third season without him. However, this topic has not been brought up during his time on social media.

In his latest Q&A session, this time hosted on Twitter, Sutter spent most of his tweets discussing the relationship between the character Jax Teller and his mother, Gemma. Both characters are fan favorites that did not return to 'Mayans M.C.' after 'SOA' ended with an open plot.

Sutter revealed details about why he decided to use Charlie Hunnam, who played Jax, and how the creator's own relationship with mom affected the plot. Jax and Gemma, played by Sutter's wife Katey Sagel, shared in many captivating moments that pushed the show beyond Freudian mother-son theories. The series' creator said that 'all of them' were tough for him.

At the end of 'Sons of Anarchy', Jax settled all of the club’s debts before giving his own life, though it was not visually confirmed.

Jax also had his wife promise to raise their sons to hate the club and think of their father as criminal in order to sway them from entering the same life. Sutter has not revealed what he plans for the sequel, but it sounds like one of Jax’s sons might find their way back into the club.

It seems very unlikely that Disney will give Sutter the intellectual property rights, but the creator currently has fans expecting the best. Here's to wishful thinking.
