Sudden Death Of Britney Spears' Psychiatrist Might Not Be A Cold Case

The last-minute cancelation of Britney Spears' court date earlier this week has fans revisiting almost every detail of her conservatorship. In the deep sea of its 12-year history, a particular event is resurfacing as the world continues questioning Spears' mental health status - and fans don't think it's not-not related to what went on earlier this week.

Last fall, the pop star's psychiatrist dropped dead at the age of 48. Dr. Timothy Benson was just days away from delivering a court-ordered medical review on Spears as a part of the ~~neverending~~ ongoing conservatorship saga.

It was speculated that Benson's cause of death was an aneurysm, but the topic was never revisited.

There doesn't seem to be any questioning of the court actually ordering a medical review, but sources are split as to what brought on the ordering in the first place.

TMZ, when breaking the news of Benson's death, said "the evaluation was ordered after questions were raised over Britney entering a mental health facility" in early 2019.

The NY Daily News wrote an entirely different story.

As they put it, "the evaluation of Spears’ conservatorship case was ordered in May after the pop star appeared in court and her lawyer said she planned to testify about 'her medical care, her minor children and trade secrets.'"

But why is this coming up again? And why now?

The Blast reported that Spears' April 21st court date was canceled just 24 hours in advance. The LA County Court stated their reasoning was "in response to COVID-19, the need for social distancing," and a series of fluffy legal words.

Ahead of Tuesday's then-scheduled hearing, Britney supporters were actively chronicling almost every event of the conservatorship since its dark beginnings in 2008. For possibly the first time since then, there was an air of excitement that Spears' freedom was finally within reach.

Sadly, there were just too many elephants in the room.

The death of Dr. Benson - besides being one of the conservatorship's most recent, significant events - had fans across many social channels connecting the dots with one common word: "fishy."

It's also important to note that April 16th marked the #FREEBRITNEY movement's one year anniversary - needless to say, fans aren't so sure coronavirus is the only thing at play here.

One fan summarized that "Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship for the last 12 years" and "has lost her human rights" as a result.

"Wait a minute," a second said Saturday, retweeting a conservatorship mega-thread. "This isn't ok."

Another pledged their loyalty by writing they "will tweet about Britney Spears until someone saves her from whatever the hell is going on in that house."

The Spears conservatorship may have been extended until August due to the virus, but it looks like the #FREEBRITNEY movement won't be taking any sick days.
