A Los Angeles County judge has just ordered that Britney Spears will remain under a personal conservatorship, until at least August, after the courthouse was partially shut due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the judge in Britney’s case has pushed back a hearing on her conservatorship to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ issue right now in this country.
As you can imagine, Britney’s hearing on the scope of her conservatorship involves tons of people including her father, mother, and tons of lawyers.
The case was set for a hearing today inside a Los Angeles courtroom, but it was continued until August 22, 2020.
“In response to COVID-19, the need for social distancing, and pursuant to the General Order issued by the Presiding Judge, the court finds good cause to continue this matter,” the court order reads.
It continued, “The Court finds all temporary orders and letters are extended until August 22, 2020.”
So, in other words, Britney will remain under the strict personal conservatorship until that time when the group can get together and argue what is best for the pop star.
As we reported, Britney and her parents have been back in court fighting over the specific guidelines of her conservatorship. At the time, we were told Spears has issues with restrictions on her driving and problems with her father, Jaime.
Jaime Spears stepped down as the conservator in his daughter’s case, and a temporary one (a lawyer) was put into place. Mr. Spears stepped down as a conservator citing “personal health issues.”
But, we broke the story, Jaime was investigated by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly “violently shaking” on of Britney’s sons during an argument.
It is unclear if Britney is attempting to end the entire conservatorship, or if she justs wants the structure and restrictions changed.
This will be an uphill battle for the pop princess, partially because she was recently hospitalized for mental health issues. The other reason is that the conservatorship has been quite successful in the past decade, guiding the pop star through several Las Vegas residencies and keeping her safe.
But, there are fans of Britney’s which are part of a moment called, #FreeBritney, which have taken to social media to point out their belief the pop star is being negatively controlled by the conservatorship. The group protests at most conservatorship hearings outside of the courthouse.
