Kaluuya broke out with his acclaimed role in Jordan Peele's 2017 film, "Get Out," earning an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in his role. He later earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in last year's "Judas and the Black Messiah."

He later re-teamed with Peele once again for this year's "Nope," which also became a hit. The film grossed $123 million at the domestic box office and $170 million worldwide since it opened in theaters in July. He was also featured in Marvel Studios' 2018 film, "Black Panther," which grossed $700 million domestically and over $1.3 billion worldwide.

More From The 'Spider-Verse'

While the "Spider-Verse" franchise is based on Marvel's comics, it's not technically connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since the films are produced by Sony Pictures and not Marvel Studios and The Disney Company. This is dissimilar from the Tom Holland-starring live-action "Spider-Man" movies, which are connected to the MCU and produced by Marvel Studios and head Kevin Feige.

However, the connection with the other live-action "Spider-Man" spinoff films, such as "Morbius," "Kraven the Hunter," "Venom," and "Madame Web" is a lot murkier. The "Venom" movies were hits. However, "Morbius" bombed at the box office and with critics. Granted, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote did travel to the MCU dimension in "Venom: Let There Be Carnage."
