Netflix Officially Renews 'The Sandman' For Season 2
Per Netflix's announcement, the show will return with new episodes and stories to be adapted later on. The above teaser also featured a look at Morpheus' Helm of Dreams emerging from the sand.
Gaiman, who created the original "Sandman" comic, also issued a statement on the news, via Netflix, commenting, "Millions upon millions of people have welcomed and watched and loved 'The Sandman' on Netflix, from established Sandmanfans to people who were simply curious, and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their goings-on." He continued, "It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing even more of The Sandman stories to life."

Season 1 left fans with Dream (Tom Sturridge) and his friends and foes, with the forces of Hell on the move, led by Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie). Netflix states that upcoming episodes will dive into the conflict and explore the challenges facing the universe after Morpheus' century-long absence.
Gaiman added on "The Sandman" Season 2, "There's a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell..."
There had been many questions regarding the show's future in recent months, with many wondering if the show will return or not. This announcement should at least ease fans' minds for a while with the knowledge that the show will be continuing for the time being, especially when Netflix has not been shy about canceling genre shows very quickly after their debuts. Case in point, Netflix's recent "Cowboy Bebop" and "Resident Evil" live-action shows.
Allan Heinberg ("The O.C.," "Wonder Woman," "Grey's Anatomy) works as showrunner for the series, with Gaiman and David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins," "Blade," "The Dark Knight," "Man of Steel") serving as executive producers. Besides Sturridge and Christie, the show also stars Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vanesu Samunyai, John Cameron Mitchell, Asim Chaudry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Joely Richardson, Niamh Walsh, Sandra James-Young, and Razane Jammal.
Mark Hamill of "Star Wars" fame also made an appearance as a "key character" in the first season.
The original "Sandman" comic series was first published by DC Comics in 1989 and ran for 75 issues. Gaiman created the title with artists Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg. The first season roughly followed the first 16 issues of the original series. Morpheus tries to bring order back to his role after he was held prisoner for 100 years after an occult ritual.
The show has mostly received strong reviews from critics with an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Netflix has not announced a launch date for "The Sandman" Season 2. The first season of 11 episodes is currently available in full on the streaming service.
