Just how popular is Johnny Depp? Even now, that is, despite recent flops like 'The Lone Ranger' and his even bigger personal flop, his marriage to and divorce from Amber Heard? The allegations of abuse and the dirty laundry being aired in public were enough for Disney to drop him form a long-standing and prestigious project, but it seems Depp is now taking a stand and fighting back. Depp needs no introduction. While he may have come in chocolate-boy roles and romances at the start of his career, he always gravitated towards the path less taken. Think 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Finding Neverland', 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' and more recently Captain Jack Sparrow in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise. He is also Gellert Grindelwald in the 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise, yet another masterpiece by J. K. Rowling, and Tonto in 'The Lone Ranger', which also starred the rather dreamy Armie Hammer.

His choice in roles is cool but we cannot say the same about the women in his life. His life seemed perfectly sorted as long as he was with Vanessa Paradis. However, the romance between him and Amber Heard started while they were filming 'Rum Diaries' and culminated into marriage but went sour very fast. From shouting and slanging matches to Depp being under the influence at major events to allegations of abuse on either side, this was a marriage made in hell and Depp's standing took a beating.

Things are looking up for the 56-year-old star now, and he's even filed a defamation suit against Heard, and proceedings for the same are going on in court. Meanwhile, Disney too may be having second thoughts about getting Depp back as Jack Sparrow though Coronavirus has pushed everything back. On that note, Johnny Depp has joined Instagram, and has all of three posts on it, one being an eight-minute video, the other being a photograph. The third is a song, "Isolation" with Jeff Beck. But can you guess how many followers he has in a 24-hour period?

Depp's popularity graph does not seem to have suffered much by Amber Heard's accusations, considering in 24 hours, the man has gleaned over 2 million Instagram followers! Correction, we just checked, its 2.2 million now. And the man has a message for his fans as he says, "I don’t think I’ve really ever felt any particular reason to [join social media] until now. Now is the time to open up a dialogue, as the threat of this invisible enemy has already caused immeasurable tragedies and damage to people’s lives.” Amen, Depp, Amen!
