Several Instagram Users Experience Mysterious Outage, Reports Of Suspended Accounts

Some Instagram users were in for a spooky situation on Halloween!

Several users received messages stating that their accounts had been suspended without explanation. Reports of users arbitrarily losing followers also began to surface! The message in question also prompted users to reveal multiple pieces of personal information in order to recover their accounts.

Affected users soon took to Twitter to sound off about their experiences. The hashtag #instagramdown soon began to trend globally as a result. "My Instagram" and "My IG" were also trending.

According to a report from Reuters, Nearly 3,000 users reported having issues with their accounts mid-morning on Monday.

Many Twitter users shared screenshots of Instagram's message.

It reads, "We suspended your account on October 31st, 2022. There are 30 days remaining to disagree with this decision."

Several general reasons for the suspicion were given, but affected users were not given specific information or directions concerning how to retrieve their accounts on an individual basis.

Reuters also reported stocks had also been affected by the outage. According to the outlet, "Shares of Meta were trading 5% lower amid a wider selloff in stock markets."

The BBC shared some users were receiving messages stating "their account has been shut down for 30 days."

Twitter users began to share details of their experiences attempting to retrieve their affected accounts.

Twitter user @kprak_xo tweeted, "soo apparently my instagram account no longer exists? #instagramisdown @instagram please resolve this issue because I have 10+ years worth of memories on there. DON'T LOG OUT IF YOU GET THE ERROR!"

Many users attempted to make light of the situation by sharing jokes and posting memes about the outage.

@AmnaFarooq shared the famous meme of a young girl standing in front of a burning house, tweeting, "My Instagram crashes and me rushing to Twitter to just ignore my insta crash."

Another tweeted a photo of someone skeptically looking at a bunch of computers and wrote, "It's me trying to figure out why Instagram suspended my Account," and they also included a confused face emoji.

Several frustrated users responded to this thread, detailing the specifics of their experiences.

Instagram Communications soon responded to the reports, sharing a message to their Twitter account.

The tweet read, "We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We're looking into it, and apologize for the inconvenience."

Instagram has yet to reveal further details or make an official announcement concerning account restorations as of this writing. The official Instagram account retweeted Instagram Communications' tweet but did not offer any additional information.
