Former 'SNL' Star Chris Redd Hospitalized After Brutal Attack Before NYC Show

Comedian, Chris Redd's Wednesday night was ruined after an unidentified person attacked him right before his show. The former "Saturday Night Live" star spent some time at the Bellevue Hospital in New York after sustaining some facial injuries from the attack.

The actor who waved goodbye to "SNL" earlier this year planned to perform in Greenwich Village at the Comedy Celler. However, he was forced to cancel his show to get treatment after the unexpected attack.

News of the incident comes after Redd announced his new relationship with former "SNL" co-star Cristina Evangeline last month. The model is currently processing divorce from her husband, Kenan Thompson, after 11 years of marriage. While Redd is recovering, he is set to release a comedy special in November and continue performing.

As reported by the NYC police department, the 37-year-old got out of his car at 9:40 pm when an unknown person walked up to him and hit him in the face unprovoked. The punch left a deep cut on Redd's nose, and nearby witnesses transported him to the hospital.

The attacker also tried to snatch his chain away from his neck, but it fell apart on the ground before Redd retrieved it. According to TMZ, the star is currently recovering and has already left the hospital. However, the story is far from over, as police are still investigating the incident.

While they have made no arrests, they plan to investigate the attacker's identity and the motive behind his actions.

At the moment, all the New York police department knows about the attacker is that he was wearing a security guard uniform when he hit Redd outside the comedy club. The police were patrolling the area when the incident happened and quickly ran to the scene. However, the assaulter took off before they reached Redd.

TMZ shared a video following the attack that showed passersby helping the actor get up. The clip also showed blood on the street and Redd's face. Witnesses of the event also confirmed that there were drops of the comedian's blood on the stairs that led to the comedy club.

The police also took some pictures of Redd's injuries to help with their investigation into the incident. The star's injuries required him to spend some time in the hospital, which meant he

had to cancel his show and take time off.

The "Bust Down" actor who planned to appear at Greenwich Village for a show prioritized his health and canceled the scheduled performance after the attack. While he has yet to reveal a new date for the show, he plans to release a new comedy special titled "Why Am I Like This?" on November 3rd.

The hour-long stand-up special will air on HBO Max and show viewers some "pivotal parts of his life that made him into the person he is today," per the company's press release. He will also open up about feeling like he was "living someone else's dream" in the upcoming special.

In a recent Instagram post, he wrote about the special, "14 years of hustle…countless amount of shows. Years of running around doing dumb sh*t …and being *almost* scandal free all lead to this!!" While neither Redd nor his team has commented on the attack, it comes after news that he is now dating his former SNL co-star Evangeline.

The "Kenan" star and the 33-year-old announced their new relationship in September. Per TMZ, there is no malice between Redd and Thompson, who starred together on the comedy show "Kenan" from 2021-2022. Sources also confirmed to the site that the two had been together for almost a year, but there was no cheating when their romance started.

TMZ also revealed how Thompson felt about the new relationship. He stated that he has no ill feelings about it and is also exploring relationships with others. After over a decade of marriage, the actor filed for a divorce from the model in May.
