Jennette McCurdy Teases Return To Acting

The child actor, who graced the Time100 Next Gala event, dressed in 80's inspired sequin bustier top, affirmed that regardless of all her previous experiences, her acting days are not entirely behind her. Initially, McCurdy was open about discontinuing acting in 2018, then attributed the release of her best-selling memoir to helping her reconsider that decision. In her words:

"I do feel like only through writing the book have I gotten to a place where I think there might be a way of exploring acting that doesn't carry that baggage that I carried with me for so long. Maybe if I write something for myself. I think that'd really be maybe one of the only ways I could kind of try exploring it again"

"We knew Jennette McCurdy as a child star and comedian, but with her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, the world realized she is also an incredible, brilliant writer who worked her ass off to get to the point where she could take her mom off a pedestal and be real about her experiences growing up with narcissistic parental abuse. She had to find her voice to survive. And what a powerful voice it is!"

The 58-year-old Emmy-nominated actor also noted that the 30-year-old had put a lot of work into therapy to process all she endured, including her mother's volatile behavior. In August, The Blast reported that the "Malcolm in the Middle" star opened up about how she now misses her mom and feels some peace after all she went through. The memoir "I'm Glad My Mom Died" explored the toxicity, abuse, and exploitation she faced in the industry and how her mum forced her into acting at a very young age.

On the "Anna Faris Is Unqualified" with popular veteran Anna Faris, the "Generation Love" singer expressed relief at being able to miss her mom and finding closure from writing the book. She said:

"I think closure is hard to come by, if it is even possible to come by. But I think that's what the book helped me with. I think there was some attempt to find closure. Now, I can have this experience with my mom where I can just miss her."
