That guest happened to be Paris Hilton.

The hotel heiress was THE OG social media influencer. She made the “selfie” popular, created the catchphrase “That’s Hot,” and has gone on to make multi-millions for herself.

Many millennials grew to know Hilton from the reality TV show, “The Simple Life.” Others may know her for her more risqué “performances” in the form of sex tapes.

Regardless of how you know her, you most likely judged her for how she talked, walked and acted.

Markle was no different when it came to passing judgement on Hilton.

She told Variety that interviewing Hilton made her very nervous. It ended up being one of her most challenging interviews.

“I spoke to Paris Hilton last week. I told her at the beginning that I was the most nervous about her interview,” Markle admitted. “I was embarrassed to admit it, but I’ve had a judgment about her that’s based on everything I’ve seen, and I don’t like to come from a place of judgment. But I also didn’t grow up pretty.”

When asked to expand upon her comment about not growing up pretty, Markle explained, “I grew up as the smart one. So much of what I ended up thinking about, when I thought about Paris, was envy and judgment — two of the most dangerous things.”

It wasn’t until Markle heard about Hilton’s previous trauma and abuse from being forced to attend Provo Canyon School as a teenager that her mindset about Hilton changed.

“Very late at night, this would be around 3 or 4 in the morning. They would take myself and other girls into this room and they would perform medical exams,” revealed the 41-year-old. Hilton made sure to point out, “It wasn’t even with a doctor.”

When she appeared on Markle’s podcast, the Duchess of Sussex told her, “I’m really sorry that I judged you.”

She continued, “I wanted her to be safe and comfortable. I told her I wasn’t looking for a ‘gotcha’ moment. I want a ‘got you’ moment, where we get you.”

Markle said it wasn’t a “defense” of Hilton, but rather a “humanization of her.”

In the trailer, Hilton and several others make statements about the treatment they received at places like this. “I was verbally, physically, emotionally, abused,” says Hilton. Another woman testifies to seeing people be “sedated”. “They’ll restrain you,” claims another.

One young boy even says his restraints felt like his shoulders were touching. “I felt completely violated,” claimed one more.

Through tears, Hilton says her experience with sexual abuse at the school was “scary”.

“It was with a couple different staff members, where they would have us lay on the table and put their fingers inside of us and I don’t know what they were doing, but it was definitely not a doctor and it was really scary,” she admitted.
