Anna Delvey BANNED From Social Media, Set To Be Released From ICE Custody

Fake German heiress, Anna Sorokin, more popularly known by her alias Anna Delvey has reportedly been banned from social media and also, according to a judge, will be released from Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. The convict inspired "Inventing Anna," a Netflix miniseries that looked into her life.

Delvey first got into trouble with the law in April 2019. She was convicted of swindling hundreds of thousands of dollars from businesses and financial institutions to bankroll her VIP lifestyle in Manhattan. She was eventually released in February 2021 after paying back her victims.

Weeks after her release from the New York State prison, Delvey was once again apprehended by ICE for overstaying her visa. However, according to a recent U.S court ruling, the 31-year-old is to be released from ICE after paying a $10,000 fine.

According to the ruling of U.S. Immigration Judge Charles Conroy, Delvey will be granted leave from the ICE facility located in Orange County, New York. The 31-year-old was apprehended in March last year after staying past the due date of her visa.

Bloomberg revealed that a condition of her release included a $10,000 bail. Delvey was also ordered to completely stay away from social media like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok, where she led an active life.

The fake heiress notably posted photos of her "VIP" lifestyle in order to impress her friends and reel in new investors. Delvey's seemingly wealthy lifestyle included stifling hotels as well as banks and friends of tens of thousands of dollars.

Via The Daily Beast, a Wednesday ruling concerning Delvey's case revealed that the 31-year-old's release was granted. However, the convict will likely be deported, so she will be under "24-hour confinement at the provided residential address for the duration of her immigration proceedings."

While the government argued that Delvey was a danger to society, John Sandweg, Delvey's lawyer, spoke on the ruling and commended the judge on his decision to release the 31-year-old. Sandweg was previously the acting director of ICE.

"She hasn't been accused of committing a crime since 2017," he told Bloomberg. "And the evidence clearly demonstrated that any risk she does pose can be adequately managed through supervision, electronic monitoring, parole, and the supervision of ICE."

A second lawyer in the 31-year-old's legal team, Duncan Levin, spoke to The Daily Beast and revealed that there were still a number of loose ends to tie up to secure Delvey's release.

"We are extremely gratified by the court's decision today to release Anna Sorokin," Levin said. "The judge rightfully recognized that Anna is not a danger to the community."

He continued, "While there are still a few hurdles to jump through on her release conditions, Anna is thrilled to be getting out so she can focus on appealing her wrongful conviction." Some of these hurdles include posting bond for the fake heiress.

While granting Delvey her release from ICE's custody, the presiding judge revealed that the 31-year-old had shown considerable interest in "pursuing legitimate employment in the United States." According to The Daily Beast, said pursuits would reportedly be under scrutiny by the authorities and the public.

Judge Conroe said, "She will be required to abide by conditions of release imposed both by the New York State Parole Board and immigration authorities, which, combined with her status as a public figure, will make it particularly difficult for her to avoid detection. For all of these reasons, the Court finds that [Sorokin's] risk of flight sufficiently mitigated."

The Russian-born public figure became famous after posing as a German heiress with a trust fund worth $67 million. In 2019, Delvey had her first brush with the law and was accused of stealing over $200,000 from New York's elite.

She was found guilty of eight charges, including grand larceny in the first degree as well as in the second degree and third degree. Theft of services was also among her various convictions.
