The Reason Why Emily Ratajkowski Claims To 'HATE' Marilyn Monroe Biopic 'Blonde'

Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski isn't very pleased with "Blonde," the new Marilyn Monroe biopic, and she has made it very clear to the public why. The women's rights advocate accused the movie director, Andrew Dominik, of idolizing women's pain following the film's release on September 22nd, 2022.

After seeing some scenes from the new project, Ratajkowski took to social media to express her feelings. It upset her more to see that Monroe, who died in August 1962, was the subject of the "fetishization." She explained that women were victims of hate, even in death.

While Ratajkowski has yet to watch the film, the 31-year-old actress took to TikTok to criticize "Blonde" on Friday. She said, I'm not surprised to hear that it's yet another movie fetishizing female pain, even in death." She also gave examples of other women that were "obsessed over" in Hollywood, like Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse.

Ratajkowski noted that society loved to "fetishize female pain," and she was tired of it. "We obsess over dead girls and serial killers," Ratajkowski said, citing Late Princess Diana as an example. While it upset her that the public was obsessed with women, she confessed that she fetishized her own pain and hurt.

She also admitted that it felt "sexy" to have issues and be "fucked up" sometimes. The "My Body" writer then noted that fetishization was a problem that needed to be fixed. She said, "I think we do that in many, many different ways. But I want that to change."

Following this, Ratajkowski urged fans to be "more pissed off" at the film. The "I Feel Pretty" star also noted that she would "get angry" when she ends up seeing the movie. The actress is one of many celebrities who have openly criticized the film.

Along with other viewers that criticized the film, 28-year-old model and singer Courtney Stodden noted that she would boycott the movie in an interview with PageSix. "I will not be watching," Stodden said a day before Ratajkowski spoke about it.

The star who identifies as they/them felt personally offended by the movie as "somebody who understands what it feels like to be exploited sexually." They then criticized the production team for turning Monroe "into a joke." "I think…that is a little disrespectful."

Preaching the Ratajkowski gospel, they also urged fans to boycott the film and "leave Marilyn alone." Stodden said, "I would urge people to not watch the movie because that is not Marilyn Monroe, that is not her story. It's fictionalized and it's to make her something she wasn't."

She continued, "She never wanted to be the girl they're painting her as. Please, please don't watch it." Amid the criticism, the movie stars Ana de Armas as Monroe, topped the Netflix film chart last week. However, critics and women's rights activists still encourage the public to boycott it.

The biopic triggered several other viewers who found the plot misogynistic and mean. Popular New York Times critic Manohla Dargis among others, opened up on how upset the movie made her feel.

"Given all the indignities and horrors that Marilyn Monroe endured during her 36 years, it is a relief that she didn't have to suffer through the vulgarities of 'Blonde,' the latest necrophiliac entertainment to exploit her," she wrote in her review.

Another part of the film that triggered critics was the anti-abortion scenes. The scenes showed de Armas' Monroe having an abortion against her will. This upset critics like Justin Chang, who expressed his views in the Los Angeles Times and wrote about how misogynistic they were.

Explaining the scenes, Abortion researcher Steph Herold tweeted, "It depicts Marilyn being coerced into her first abortion, screaming on the table that she's changed her mind."

Monroe was also tormented in another scene by what appeared to be a child in her womb. The fetus asks her, "You won't hurt me this time, will you?" Monroe then had a miscarriage, which Herold thought to be a "punishment" for the Abortion in the first scene. The researcher explained that "Blonde" was an "anti-abortion" and "sexist" film. She also accused the director of "exploiting" Monroe's life and death.
