Reese Witherspoon Rejoices After Harvey Weinstein Is Sentenced To 23-Years: 'This Gives Me Renewed Hope'

Reese Witherspoon joined the growing list of people who are thrilled that Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23-years in prison. The actress took to Twitter on Wednesday to express her gratitude for all the victims that spoke up now that Weinstein has been convicted and sentenced.

"A historical moment today," Reese wrote referencing the sentencing. "I am so appreciative of the women and men who spoke up about the abuse and harassment they suffered at the hands of Harvey Weinstein."

Witherspoon continued her twitter thread and stated that her faith in the justice system has been restored.

"This gives me renewed hope in the US justice system that due process works, survivors will be believed, and justice will be served," she continued.

The star then took a special moment to acknowledge the hard work and risk required to bring the horrific crimes Harvey committed to light.

"Thank you to all of the journalists and publications who persisted in telling survivors stories, despite constant pushback and threats, and brought this story to the light.

Weinstein was sentenced to 23-years in prison by a judge on Thursday nearly two weeks after he was found guilty of third-degree rape and criminal sexual assault in the first degree. Harvey is 67-years-old which means he would have to live to the age of 90 to ever see freedom again. It appears that his health has already begun to deteriorate and he is forced to use a walker to get around unless it was all an act for the court. There is also a reason they call it "doing hard time" and it won't be easy for the aging man who will likely pass away behind bars.

While he was in court, he addressed the victims that were present, "I have great remorse for all of you. I have great remorse for all women," he said.

"If I had to do a lot of things over I would care less about movies and more about my children and my family," the disgraced producer added.

His legal troubles are not over yet, he still is facing separate charges in Los Angeles from two unidentified women that claim he attacked them in February of 2013.
