FX's "Reservation Dogs" is officially coming back for a third season. FX and Hulu revealed the news this week via press release that the acclaimed show has been renewed for a third season ahead of the Season Two finale debuting next week.

FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad announced the news of the critically acclaimed hit show's renewals. The half-hour comedy series has been a prestigious hit for Hulu, winning an AFI Award and Peabody Award. The show is co-created and executive produced by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi ("What We Do in the Shadows," "Thor: Love and Thunder").

FX's 'Reservation Dogs' Gets A Third Season

The show's Season Two finale will debut Wednesday, September 28 on Hulu. The upcoming third season will also stream exclusively on the Hulu service next year.

"Reservation Dogs" is filmed on location in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, with an entirely Indigenous cast and crew. As noted by FX and Hulu, every writer, director, and series regular on the show is Indigenous. The story follows a group of teenagers who live on a Native American Reservation in Oklahoma in a coming-of-age story. It stars Devery Jacobs, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Lane Factor, and Paulina Alexis.

In Season Two Episode 10, The Rez Dogs set out on a journey for Daniel. The episode is directed by Harjo with a script by Tommy Pico.

FX's Grad said on the show's renewal in a statement, "Reservation Dogs continues its remarkable run with critics, fans, and awards all recognizing the singular brilliance of the series created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi." Grad expressed FX's pride in the show and third season renewal, "FX is proud to join with our partners at Hulu to order a third season featuring the amazing cast and all of the artists who deliver one of the most original, engaging, and funny shows on television."

Series co-creator Harjo conceived the show with his friend Waititi. He explained how the show was born from a chat he had with Waititi in his kitchen. Now the series has gone on to become has become a globally viewed and award-winning TV series. He issued a statement via a press release, mentioning, "The love for season 2 has been outstanding." He continued, "Thank you to FX for ordering season 3, excited to bring you more laughter and love from the Rez. Ahoooo!"

It looks like the creative team is very much succeeding with their show, where they set out to make a story that resonated with them and was based on their own life experiences. "Reservation Dog" is the first of its kind as a show with this level of Indigenous representation in the cast and crew.

Since the show's original debut, it has also racked up several awards. It won The Gotham Award for Breakthrough Series - Short Form, two Independent Spirit Awards, AFI's Television Programs of the Year, and a Peabody Award.

The breakthrough television series is executive produced by Harjo, Waititi, and Garrett Basch. Season Three will stream exclusively on Hulu in 2023.
