Garson passed away from pancreatic cancer last September, he was 57 when he passed. “Wow. I can’t believe it’s already been a year since this beautiful bald man that I can proudly call my dad passed away,” joked the 21-year-old.

“Besides his head, I think I miss his laugh and smile the most. Because I knew that whenever he was laughing he wasn’t the only one laughing.” Whew! Is anyone else getting choked up already?

Nathen remembers his father as being the life of the party wherever they went. “He had a gift of being able to talk to literally anyone he came into contact with and make them either laugh or awkwardly smile from a joke he had probably just told them.”

The Sex and the City star adopted his son when he was 7 years old, an admirable and hard age to adopt a child at, but the two seemingly bonded instantly and remain extremely close, even when Garson was repeating himself. His dad told him the same jokes all the time but his delivery was always spot on.

“I had heard the same 3 or 4 dad jokes from the time I moved in at 7 to when I turned 15. So at least a hundred times each joke and I would beg him to get a new joke,” he remembers. “Now, however, I wouldn’t be upset to hear him say those same jokes a thousand or even a million more times.”

Nathen shared that since his father’s passing he has sometimes gotten lost in grief and selfishness but, he is quickly reminded of how his dad raised him to be. “He taught me to care about others and showed me how to love when all I had ever know was to fight for myself and care only about myself.”

He lost sight of that compassion for a moment. “After he passed away I realized I’d become selfish again and not the person he’d raised me to be.” Nathen reiterates that he misses his best friend a lot but he knows that moving forward is the key to continued happiness for him.

“It’s important to revisit the past, but it’s also just as easy to get stuck in the past. It’s more important to remember that there’s also a tomorrow and a future. As you move forward, make sure you smile and live life to its fullest…because no matter how much time you might think you have, I promise you there’s less,” he wrote profoundly

He was met with absolute love and support from friends and family. Willie’s Sex and the City co-stars were some of the first to show him some virtual love.
